One of the best historical n religious place inbshahi qilla Lahore It was really great feeling to visit gurudwara Dera Sahib. this place in Pakisstan i came to know that the sikh community from all over the world come and pay homage to their religious saint GURU NANAK SAHIB. Pakistan is a tolerant society in this connection i had a close look into it. the people of other faiths feel free to live there as well and practice their beliefs.

Visited this beautiful religious site located near badshahi masjid. Only down side is that permission is required for Muslims to go inside the gurdwara or they need at least be with a tour guide. Other than. Great experience

It is a Sikh religious pilgrimage site that is visited by thousands of Sikhs all around the year. It is particularly crowded during their religious events like Besakhi. Sikhs visit the site from all around the world especially Pakistan and India. The building though comes under the management of Walled City Lahore Authority, it is still run by Sikh community and their members. They normally never allow Muslims to visit unless one has contacts with their higher members. The structure of Gurdwara is of typical design with a worship place, singing platform for religious songs, display items and a room at the back which is considered to be resting place of Guru Arjun in whose commemoration the Gurdwara is built. The guru is thought to have disappeared in river Ravi while taking bath.

Gurdwara Dera Sahib (Punjabi and Urdu: گوردوارہ ڈیہرا صاحب‎) is a Sikh temple in Lahore, Pakistan, which commemorates the spot where the 5th guru of Sikhism, Guru Arjan Dev, died in 1606.The gurudwara marks the spot where Guru Arjan is believed to have vanished into the River Ravi, which at the time flowed just outside Lahores city walls. The Guru had undergone torture on the orders of the Mughal emperor Jahangir, at a site in Lahores walled city that is commemorated by the defunct Gurdwara Lal Khoohi - which has been repurposed into a Muslim shrine by the name of Haq Chaar Yaar. The Gurus torture infuriated his close friend and Muslim mystic, Mian Mir. On the fifth day of torture, the Gurus request for a bath in the river was granted after intercession from Mian Mir.[3] After submerging himself in the river, the Guru reportedly did not reappear, and a Mughal search party was unable to retrieve him.

Gurudwara Dehra Sahib is situated opposite the Royal mosque or Shahi Masjid. At the place, after torturing, the fifth Guru was drowned into the Ravi. At that time, the Ravi flowed along the wall of the fort. The Guru after enduring the most unheard and unseen tortures, without repining, merged into the eternal light on 30th May,1606.In A.D. 1619, when the sixth Guru Hargobind visited this historical place, he got a memorial rostrum built here to commemorate the martyrdom of his Guru-father. Maharaja Ranjit Singh got built a small but beautiful Gurdwara. As there was no congregational hall attached to this place, the present hall was foounded in A.D. 1909 and daily congregations were regularly held. A sarai was got built for the convenience of the pilgrims. The marble gate was erected. The Flag post was fixed nearby. The Gurdwara has a square passage-way inside. In 1925 A.D. a local committee was formed during the Gurdwara Reform Movement that render a good service to this shrine. In A.D. 1927, the S.G.P.C. took over the management and started rebuilding a Gurdwara on 21th April, 1930. That was completed on 9th September, 1934 wherein on both sides of the Gurdwara was clay area which was paved. Domes were gold plated. The number of devotees in daily congregations increased. Another scheme to extend the hall was chalked out but due to the partition of the country, that could not be accomplished. On 9th September 1947, the Sikhs had to leave this Gurdwara too. The recitation of Sri Guru Granth Sahib at this Gurdwara continues to date. Two Singh render daily service to this shrine. Every year at the occasion of the martyrdom of Guru Arjan Dev Ji (On Shahidi Jor Mela) Sikh devotees visit the shrine to pay homage to the great Guru.

It was quite disappointing to see that people all around the Pakistan who are followers of Sri Guru Nanak and his teachings have to face the discriminative attitudes from the SIkh community over there. They have superiority complex. My trip over there was quite annoying. i dont understand why people who are taking care of religious place believe that they are more blessed or superior in contrast to others... For those who want to visit that place must carry their CNIC for verification and Muslims can also visit this place and see the tradition they follow, if they have local guides with them.
