However, with its pietra dura decorations and intricate mirror-work inlaid into the white marble walls and ceilings creating gleaming effect, the lavish room has come to be known as Palace of Mirrors, and sometimes the Hall of Mirrors. Similar halls are also found in the contemporary palace of the Agra Fort, and show influence on the later additions to Amber Fort. The solid brick foundations of Lahore Fort were laid in 1566 under the reign of Mughal emperor Akbar the Great on the location of an earlier mud-fort. To build the new fort, the Emperor brought experienced artisans after the completion of Fatehpur Sikri. Later, Shah Jahan converted the fort into a pleasure resort and added Diwan-i-Khas, Moti Masjid, Naulakha Pavilion, sleeping chambers, and Sheesh Mahal in to the complex. Sheesh Mahal is located within the Shah Burj (Kings Pavilion) block that was actually built by his predecessor Jahangir. The chamber was exclusively used for private council meetings as part of the daily routine of the emperor, whereas the whole block was only accessible to the imperial princes, the vizier, and selected courtiers. The extension work of private quarters by Shah Jahan continued between 1628 and 1634. The distinctive Shah Jahani architecture is reflected in the extensive use of white marble and hierarchical accents of the construction. During the Sikh Empire, Shah Burj became Ranjit Singhs favourite place. He built a harem over the top of Sheesh Mahal. This was also the place where he used to display his prized possession, the Koh-i-Noor.
If in night we lit a single candle in this palace of mirror. Whole area lighted up do it its mirror position. Here queen and kind spent there quality time. Our guide said in old time people scratched out diamonds from palace walls and ceiling and now we have no diamond there but a remaining hole.Management of Fort organise a drama show there in the fountain area. Which is also very much interested and a must see.

Excellent memory of Mughal era and their luxurious way of living.
Superb Place...And Extra Ordinary Art...Unbelievable Structure
It is so shocked that first you buy fort entry ticket 50 rs if a old person with you then you buy ticket 90 rs for tourest van ticket that is just drop you fort last side not inside.then you want to see seesh mehal then again you buy ticket 100 rs what is this buy the tickets again again again but not entertainment.I am very disheart.its not my first visit I have lot of visit here from my childhood.government should action for this just issue one time tickets which in include all entries.
100rs ticket per person. There is nothing too see except deteriorating mirrors embed into walls and ceilings or the art craft made hundreds of years ago. My experience no need to go in.
Had enjoy with with kids, good facilities they are offering
Absolutely worth watching. Emperor Shah jahans queen Mumtaz complete castle now can be seen publicly with a nominal ticket of 100 pkr per person. Previously. It was closed n only foreign deligations used to visit. Do take a guide from the ticket checker. He is gonna tell u the complete story and history.

All of precious items were stolen in the Sikh era.
Very Beautiful Place. It was a good experience to see it with all my friends. An interior view of a room in Amber Fort covered in thousands of tiny mirrors.. It was not in a very good condition and its roof was very near to collapse but Government and local authorities are trying to restore it.

Not completed yet under construction
Frankly, I was disappointed. Good place to visit if you are willing to spend extra money on a ticket. (If you have come to visit the fort, do visit it at least youll know what the fuss is about, right?)I visited the place in my childhood and back then there was some renovation work going on. Now the mirrors are falling off again.
Needs thorough renovation
Lovely Place
Shish Mahal which is also known as Palace of Mirror was built by Emperor Shah Jahan. Remember, he was the same King who built tomb of his Father, Emperor Jahangeer in Lahore & also world famous Taj Mahal for his wife, Mumtaz Begum in Agra, India. So, like his father & grandfather, he was also fond of beautiful buildings having full of art work. You can see outstanding mirror & art work on the walls of Shish Mahal in Lahore Fort. Precious & semi precious stones were used too which were looted by Sikh rulers during their rule in Lahore. Few years ago, although renovation work was completed but still original beauty cant be recovered.
Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan Wonderful Architecture
Absolutely stunning.
Makes you stop for a moment and think of the past Glory seen by these now empty halls and chambers
Nice.

Another architectural masterpiece from the Mughal era. It was built by Emperor Shah Jahan. The name, sheesh mahal, means ‘palace of mirrors’ and quite literally, it is made up of several mirrors of finest quality and other material including the high-quality marble. A part of the palace was reserved for the use of the royal family back then.
A unique piece of mughal architecture with rich beauty. Visited it with guided tour of walled city and witnessed live kathak dance, was a fantastic experience.
I Love Pakistan

Excellent
Awesome place thriving with history and mysticism, everything is almost in its original state that has lasted hundreds of years with the most basic of materials, Subhan-Allah!
Shesh Mahal is a fabulous spot in Qilla. Super nice design of old Mughal Architecture. It represents the luxurious life of the emperors of the past they spent government exchequer not for the benefits of the public but for themselves. That’s why they came to the earth. The view is fantastic. When you sit there and looks toward Minare Pakistan its a fantastic view. Just imagine the past view when there was river in-front of this Mahal. It came to our knowledge that a single candle can make full light due to mirrors all around there.

It was built in the middle of Jahangirs rule. The façade, consisting of five cusped marble arches supported by coupled columns, opens into the courtyard. The engrailed spandrels and bases are inlaid with precious stones. The pavilion is in the form of a semi-octagon, and consists of apartments roofed with gilded cupolas and intricately decorated with pietra dura and convex glass and mirror mosaic (ayina kari) with thousands of small mirrors. At night they light candles. The decorative features also include stucco tracery (munabat kari) and carved marble screens in geometrical and tendril designs. The roof of the central hall rises up to two storeys. The hall was originally decorated with fresco paintings that were later replaced with glass mosaic in different colours.

The Sheesh Mahal is situated in the Royal Fort of Lahore. It was not in a very good condition and its roof was very near to collapse but Government and local authorities are trying to restore it. The workers are repairing this Palace of mirrors. The word Sheesh means mirror while Mahal means Palace. It is a beautiful structure in the Royal Fort of Lahore city.Few history writers say that the Queen is buried in this place but there is no grave at its premises. Mughal had a special interest in those types of palaces which contained thousands of small mirrors in their design. This is the reason that Agra fort, Lucknow, Amer fort, Mehrangarh fort, Rohtas fort and Taj Mahal contained these types of palaces.Sheesh Mahal is situated at the west corner of Lahore fort which is the area of Shah Burj block. In the era of Mughal King Shah Jahan, this beautiful structure was built in the year 1631 to 1632. Finest quality mirrors were used in its decoration with white marbles. It was specially designed area for the Royal Family. Precious stones and the fountains were also installed in it. All of precious items were stolen in the Sikh era.A major scene of an Indian movie “Mughal-e-Azam” (Grand Mughal) was also taken in the set of Sheesh Mahal. Due to some conflict between the India and Pakistan the authorities did not this “Mughal-e-Azam” was not shown in Pakistan. The trend of mirror decoration is still running in the Pakistan. Ceilings and walls are decorated with colorful mirrors in this country. Currently this trend could also be seen in the general stores and bakeries etc. to attract the buyers. Most of the wedding halls are also decorated with big and small mirrors. These are specially designed marriage halls which increase the value of those events. Not only the general stores, bakeries and weddings hall this trend is high in the house making. Some peoples use mirrors to decorate their homes and sleeping rooms. Without any doubt we could say that these inspirations came from the beautiful Sheesh Mahal of Mughal era.
Its a very beautiful place and a great piece of Mughal Era Art
Visitor place near badshahi mosque
One of a kind architecture. The marble engravings and glass mirror arrangments in various floral designs is awesome.
