The tomb was built on the orders of Dara Shikoh, and was completed in 1640.Dara Shikoh had previously built a shrine dedicated to Mullah Shah, but intended for the shrine of Mian Mir to more superb. After Dara Shikohs death, the Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb used much of the material (collected by Dara Shikoh for the construction of Mian Mirs tomb), in the construction of Lahores grand Badshahi Mosque. The shrine was embellished by the use of precious stones, which were all removed by the Sikh Emperor Ranjit Singh in the 19th century to embellish the Golden Temple in Amritsar. Though a pilgrim to the shrine, Ranjit Singh also plundered the shrine of its marble for use in construction of his baradari at the Hazuri Bagh near the Badshahi Mosque and Lahore Fort. Must visit the shrine to gain spiritual experience and feel elated.

Here, every Thursday, Qawwals sing in the courtyard of the shrine, while men and women clap and sway to the rhythm. Some men dance in ecstasy, some sing along, while others pay their tributes to the saint by bowing in front of his grave. The air is filled with the mixed scent of roses and locally-made incense. Salvers of sweets and other food items are distributed among the crowd, both inside and outside of the shrine. There are certain food items that are specific to the Sufi shrines in Lahore and can be found around Mian Mir; for instance, Qatlaammay (desi pizza) and Doodh Badam (milk with nuts).

A quite place as compared to the Data Darbar Lahore very few people come to visited this place . Parking is a problem too during the Urs of Mian mir otherwise you can easily park and visit the shrine. The road which lead to this shrine is very narrow and sometimes it is very difficult to go through this road a great place it may and may not give you the freshness of soul you may make a visit to try it yourself

Hazrat Mian Mirji, the master of the Mughal Shahzada Darashikoh, who laid the foundation of the largest Sikh Gurdwara, Harimandir Saheb (Golden Temple), in 1588.Hazrat Mian Mir was born in Lahore in 1550. It is said that these caliphs were from the descendants of Omar bin Khatab, who had spiritual power. Mughal emperors also used to bring requests of prayers to them.Before the attack on the Deccan, Jahangir also came to you with a request for prayers in the battle, but at the door, his disciple stopped the emperor and said that you should wait here till Hazrat agrees. This thing was awaited by the Emperor yet again and as soon as Jahangir arrived, Hazrat Mia Mir was spoken in Persian.Ba dar-darvesh darbane na-bed (At the door of a fakir, there should be no sentry) Jahangir then pleaded for victory in his war. Just then a person entered and offered 1 rupee in favor of Hazrat, Hazrat refused to take it and said go out and give it to a poor person. After a while the man came back and said, Hazrat is not ready to take any money, it seems there is no poor here.Then Hazrat pointed to Emperor Jahangir and said, Go give this money to the poor who is not happy despite such a large sultanate, its hunger is not over yet which is going to snatch the Deccan state too.Hazrat Mia Mirs loop used to come from every religion. Among his fans was Arjun Dev Singh, the fifth Guru of the Sikhs, who often used to go to Lahore to meet Hazrat. When the Golden Temple building began, Arjun Dev Singh invited Hazrat to lay the foundation. For mutual brotherhood, Hazrat accepted the invitation and went to Amritsar to lay the foundation for the Golden Temple.

Hazrat Mian Mir Rh of Lahore a maternal grand son of Hazrat Qazi Qaden R.A. had to take refuge in Lahore and live an anonymous life for almost forty years. He has been labeled as Qadri by his well wishers and followers who did not like to expose him as Mehdvi to the state authorities or Ulmas. So also Mian Mirs Murshed Hazrat Sayed Kizr who lived an anonymous life in Sevestan. The history does not know who he was!His real identity is - he was Syed Mohammads great grand son! It goes like this - Syed Kizr bin Syed Ashraf bin Syed Yaqoob bin Syed Mehmood sani-mahdi bin Syed Mohammad Mahdi A.S.
