A very beautifully made museum. It presents cultural heritage of pakistan through different eras of history i.e gandhara, harpa and mohinjodaro art. It shows folk love tales depiction i.e. heer ranjha, sohni mahiwal, sasi pannu. It has sections of village life, truck art, muslim construction style, sufiism and much more. It is worth watching for school trips, arts students and history lovers. There are big gardens outside and at times you can find painters, artists and local exhbitions going on. There are good cultural gifts, jewlrey and sovineer shops for tourists and local shopping lovers.

PAKISTAN NATIONAL MUSEUM OF ETHNOLOGY (HERITAGE MUSEUM) earlier known as Folk Art Museum was established in 1982 with a covered area of around twenty thousand (20,000) square feet. However, in 2004 after the up-gradation and renovation, the Museum was re-named as Pakistan National Museum of Ethnology popularly known as Heritage Museum. The fascinating thing about the Heritage Museum is that it presents history and living traditions of the people of Pakistan both from the main stream and the remotest regions of the country. The primary purpose of the museum is to educate and edify present and future generations of Pakistan and to create a treasure house for the nation more valuable than the vault of any bank in the world.

The location of this landmark achievement at Islamabad enriches the federal capital and adds to its attractions. The museum has a covered area of 60,000 sq. ft. featuring exhibit halls, making it the largest museum in Pakistan. This is a museum for the people of Pakistan, who are the real bearers of our cultural traditions, which make Pakistan truly great.

It has a very good layout, very thorough and presents aspects of Pakistani culture and culture of other countries very beautifully. The only problem I had was that the last time i visited, they had removed all food places. I can understand the need to maintain clean environment but there is always a need for availability of food after a day in the museum. It displays the cultural heritage of Pakistani people. The living style of the different areas of Pakistan is exhibited here in statues, pictures, pottery, music and textile work. Lok Virsa is the finest cultural museum in Pakistan. It showcases art works that help in preserving the living folk and traditional culture and crafts of Pakistan. the Lok Virsa Heritage Reference Library is well equipped with resource data on ethnography, anthropology, folk music, art, history and crafts. Books on culture, heritage, audio and video-cassettes of folk and classical vocal and instrumental music are available for sale at Lok Virsa’s sales centre.
