I order this a couple of weeks back as a Christmas gift and at first was really impressed with their customer service, I received it fairly quickly and it was packaged well. The set is actually really nice, the pieces are definitely lighter than expected but nonetheless. Then I see that some pieces are broken and almost all of them are chipped, I sent out an email and their response was “it’s hand crafted, so just glue it” I spent over three hundred dollars and they’re reply was just glue it. Lesson learned.

Only giving them 1 star because I had to. Buy from them with caution, I requested their Star Series (which is copper and white) to be black and white to match with a board I had. Well they still sent me copper and white, even though their site says any color at your request. Heres where the fun begins, so I email them letting them know this wasnt what I requested. They acted as if it was my fault, so I send it back and file a refund claim (with my bank) they then email me back days later back and forth for DAYS claiming that I kept their set and they didnt get it, even though I put the exact address given on their website. So then a month later they file a claim reversal and I have $450 taken out of my account during the holidays for a set I do not have and have no idea where it is. In fact during the debacle I purchased a set from another supplier. The quality of their(The Chess Empire) set wasnt as talked up to be by them, lacquer runs were visible and pieces werent as heavy as said. This was THE worst transaction Ive ever had with a chess company and Ill never ever deal with them again.

We happened to visit the store ,the owner took a lot of effort to show us different chess piece sets and after spending a lot of time looking through a variety of pieces it was very difficult for me to select as there were huge collection to choose from , the owner also offered to make it custom made for our liking ,they have sets for all price ranges ,a must visit if you are in the city. Also got a tour of the factory with the owner walking us around explaining the making of the chess pieces and boards from the scratch.

We visited their office / factory on Indias Independence Day this year and the Owner, Rishi, was such a lovely gentleman who took his time in explaining to us what makes a good chess board / piece while showing us a wide range of his gorgeous chess sets. He also showed us around in his factory where the craftsmen were engaged in all kinds of processes in surprisingly healthy conditions and an well-managed environment. All the craftsmen were provided with a nice accommodation to live in, coupled with free water and electricity supply. It came with such a great feeling that we got to purchase the chess masterpieces created by the artisans who have been treated nicely and therefore having been loyally working for their thoughtful boss for decades. This definitely became the highlight of our trip to Amritsar and if you are intending to buy a great handmade chess set, you dont need to look any further!

I had the pleasure of visiting their shop and workshop in Amritsar, India. Stunning chess pieces made to perfection. The craftsmanship is stunning and the pieces go through rigorous checking. It was an absolute pleasure to look at and buy myself a really striking chess set. Gaurav Sharma is a pleasure to deal with.
