Emperor shah jahan built this mosque in the name of his mother Maryam zamani. It is also called mother of mosques in Lahore.
I wish we could preserve our heritage...
The Mosque of Mariyam Zamani Begum is an early 17th-century mosque situated in the Walled City of Lahore, Punjab, Pakistan. The mosque was built between 1611 and 1614 during the reign of Mughal Emperor Jahangir in honour of his mother. It is Lahores earliest surviving example of a Mughal-era mosque, and influenced construction of the larger Wazir Khan Mosque a few decades later. This mosque was turned in name of most celebrated Sikh hero Bhai Mani Singh ji, as Shaheed Ganj Bhai Mani Singh, under Sikh rule. The mosque has been encroached upon by several shops, and views of the mosque from the Akbari Gate of the Lahore Fort have been obstructed by illegally constructed tyre shops. In July 2016, the Walled City of Lahore Authority announced that the shops would be removed, and the mosque would also be conserved and restored.
Maryam Zamani Mosque: The Hidden Gem of LahoreSitting under a marvellous dome like this, in complete silence, one is momentarily separated from the perpetual worries and hectic pace of daily life. There is a sense of peace here that is not found anywhere else in the city. However, most parts of this historic mosque are in a terrible condition: they are crumbling and fading away, or worse, being painted over. The diminishing reality of these structures is heartbreaking, but it makes you realize the role which power, funding, and priorities can play. The place in question is Maryam Zamani Mosque, in Old Lahore. It is one of the oldest and most significant Mughal monuments in the subcontinent. But it is not as well known as the other Mughal buildings and is easily overlooked since it is surrounded by a dense bazaar. Although it has three entrances, you could very easily pass by all of them, without realizing the gem hidden within those walls.
One of the oldest Mosques of Lahore but unfortunately, in a pathetic condition. It has two names 1)Maryam Zamani Mosque 2)Begum Shahi Mosque. Initially it was built by Mughal king for all sects of Islam but after few centuries, Shiites, Salafists & Ahmadi were banned by administration of Mosque & only Hanfi Sunni were allowed to perform prayers. This nonsense was quite rare & still, such narrow mindset is rare in Pakistan.Anyway, Ranjit Singh changed this mosque into powder gun factory & when British came, Mosque was handed over to Sunni Muslims.Still today, Mosque is functional. Its hard to locate due to Encroachments.

Beautiful, not taken care well by govt and people
Exploring the hidden classical constructed Mughal Era Begam Shahi Masjid. It must be taken over Archeological department and surrounding areas should be get clean. There should be no construction in between Masjid and Shahi Qila (Fort).
Such a rich old culture. One thing hurt me badly when i read a 100 year old board. Wahabi, rafzi, merzai ka dakhla mana hai. Such a shame. Musalman nahi aj hanfi hona lazam hai. Bawajod is kay main bhi khud ko hanfi smjhta tha, bht dukh hoa

Beautiful & very historical mosque
One of the most ancient mosque of Lahore
It is a small mosque but is masterpiece of Mughal architecture. Unlike Badshahi Mosque it is poorly maintained. It is one of the oldest Mughal mosques in Lahore. It is named after King Akbar’s Rajpoot wife Manmati, titled of Maryam-i-Zamani. It was built in 1611 opposite Masti Gate then called Masjidy Gate. There is no parking space nearby and the visiters have to park outside Mastigate and go to mosque on foot. No one will guide you about the way to mosque, instead ask for Masti Gate.
100 yards outside the East or Masti (Masjidi) Gate of Lahore fort stands the oldest dated mosque in the city, founded, as an inscription on the north entrance records, by Maryam Zamani, mother of the emperor Jahangir, in A.D. 1614. Architecturally Maryam Zamani Mosque is of severe and early design; the five arches of the prayer chamber have simple four-centred heads, the central arch under the usual tall framing-arch, which is also four-centred and has a half-dome ornamented with interlaced ribbing. The building has three flat domes, and at each corner of its facade are square towers carrying small cupolas on octagonal drums, whilst two equivalent turrets with cupolas rise from the roof at the back corners. Internally, the central dome has interlaced ribbing or tracery and honeycombed squinches, whilst the side-domes have interlaced pendentives. The building of Maryam Zamani Mosque would be of little note but for the paintings with which the walls of the interior are covered. These paintings are, however, unrivalled in Pakistan, and perhaps in India, for their delicacy and lively variety, and for their harmonious golden tone which is due only in part to age. The panels include flowerpots, cypresses, palms and other trees, and a miscellany of flower-designs, partly framed in elaborate geometrical patterns. Compared with the relatively coarse and indifferent brushwork on Lahore monuments of the second quarter of the century, these are of outstanding beauty and distinction. Maryam Zamani Mosque would appear that the liberal use of mosaic tile work under Janhangir’s successor, Shahjahan, induced or at least coincided with decay in the quality of wall-painting, but at the date of the present mosque the rival technique had scarcely yet appeared at Lahore.
