There are many issues with the College and Faculty. There is a general disbelie among authority regarding mental health and students are often overworked. This aside, some of the best people can be found here, with an assortment of mentalities and perspectives. Few places are as diverse and direct. Its a place of endless toil and passion for work.

Like all old institutions, the National College of Arts, has a historical tradition. Much of its present tone was set long ago when it was known as the Mayo School of Arts. This college is a very unique, popular old college of Lahore. After partition of Pakistan and India this school was upgraded and renamed as National College of Arts. Second campus of NCA is in Rawalpindi, it was established to accommodate large number of students. There are 450 students throughout the Pakistan get education at NCA and only good competitors get admission in this institute because to get admission at NCA is really very difficult as it is only authentic institute for art studies in Pakistan.

Very Beautiful & Excellent. NCA was originally founded in 1875 as the Mayo School of Industrial Arts and was one of two art colleges created by the British Crown in British India in reaction to the Arts & Crafts Movement. The Mayo School of Industrial Arts was named in honor of the recently assassinated British Viceroy Lord Mayo in 1875. John Lockwood Kipling becoming the schools first principal, who was also appointed the first curator of the Lahore Museum, which opened the same year in an adjacent building. In 1958, the school was renamed to the National College of Arts.[8] Designated the premier art institution in the country, it was transferred to the Department of Education from the Department of Industries in the 1960s. It received a degree-awarding status in 1985 and created its first graduate programs in 1999. In 2006, the school opened a second campus in Rawalpindi and received a university charter in June 2011.

Once you are inside NCA, it feels like being in any European university or college. The best part of NCA is that it has not let politics of the land outside its gates get inside. Whatever happens in Pakistan has least impact on the working of this institution. Plus, this institution is housed inside an English era building with a blend of Mughal architecture. One can easily let his hair down and let himself get taken away to a different era, in a different time space, which is completely not typical Pakistani.

It is difficult for me to write about my sweet memories during my stay from 1974-79 in architecture Dept and hostel of NCA at Sanda Road.It is merely not an institute par excellence, yet a deepest ocean for all those who are lucky enough to be a part of this institute. We were lucky as we celebrated the CENTENNIAL CEREMONY of NCA while we were there.Teachers like ( Sirs) kamil Khan Mumtaz, Tanveer Hussein, Madam Saleema Hashmi, late javed Najam, Saeed Akhtar, Dr Shakeel, Madam Shahnaz Mali, Late madam Abbasi Abidi, Madam Yasmeen Cheema, and some others were a cluster of jems who polished us in our abilities and today we feel proud to have been students thru their guidance and serving within and outside Pakistan illuminating the name of our institution.Pray for those who are not among us, and a longer healthy life for those who are with us as of today.Hostel life is always a treasure for us and have beautiful memories of all of our activities from hostel ground, dinning hall, dormitories and cubicles. We the Architectural Class of 194-79 have decided to have a ceremonial reunion on our 40th Graduation Year on December 2019 and In Sha Allah will visit our beloved institution once again.Farooq A Bhatti,Project Manager Architecture,Saudconsult- KhobarSaudi Arabia

NCA is more than an art college. Started as Mayo School of Arts, this place has a museum feel in its old building. While Lahore went through many different phases of suppression, NCA was always open to difference of opinions and letting the individuals move with their choices. This has been the key strength of this institute. Now offering graduate and post graduate degrees in various disciplines including Musicology, Multimedia, Film Making etc. NCA was perhaps the first in the world to offer a bachelors degree in Miniature painting and has over the years, produced one of the finest miniature artists.

The history of the NCA is bound up with the incredible legacy of personalities that have emerged from it. Nayyar Ali Dada’s eclectic expression bears much of Pakistan’s creative expression in architecture; Professor Emeritus Khalid Iqbal gave us the sensitive soul of the Punjab in painting; Zahoor ul Akhlaque, the reflective artist, left behind an imperishable legacy; Mian Ijazul Hassan’s works of art and Mian Salahuddin the ceramicist generated provocative controversies; Nayyara Noor, whose music and voice has touched the hearts of generations; Graphic Designers Niaz Ali Shah Sahib, Ahmad Khan and Mehmood-ul-Hassan Jafri established the technical, perceptual, theoretical peripheries of publicity and graphic design and what is now called communication design. Teachers and artists like Salima. Hashmi and Colin David trained an entire generation that studied at the NCA. Such has been the contribution of many like Kamil Khan Mumtaz, Javed Najam, Tanveer Hussain, Abdul Rehman Khan, Shehrazad Alam who earned name and repute in their fields. The Textile Design Department was established under the leadership of Professor Abbassi Akhter, who later on became the principal of the NCA. The product designer Professor Qadir Bakhsh was the founding father of the department of product design established a venerable reputation nationally and internationally; the same arena where Ustad Mohamed Ali carved numerous and finest woodcarvings. Shirin Pasha, the film-maker with the sensibility of a painter; Professor Iqbal Hassan the eternal academic who took charge of teaching art history and headed the department that can rightly be called the intellectual backbone of studio programs offered at the NCA.
