The Lahore High Court (Urdu: عدالت عالیہ لاہور‎) is based in Lahore, Punjab, Pakistan. It was established as a high court on 21 March 1919.[1] The Lahore High Court has jurisdiction over Punjab. The High Courts principal seat is in Lahore, but there are benches in three other Pakistani cities: Rawalpindi, Multan and Bahawalpur. A proposal was sent by lawyers to set up new high court benches in Faisalabad, Sialkot, D.G.Khan and Gujranwala divisions but full court of Lahore High Court turned down this request.

Lahore High Court is headed by a Chief Justice. The bench consist of Justices and additional judges. The retirement age of Chief Justice and Justices is 62 years. The Additional Judges are initially appointed for one year. After that their services could either be extended or they could be confirmed or they are retired.

Lahore High Court is the most prestigious court of the Province. Lahore High court has completed its 100 years of age established by the British regime in India. Lahore High Court is the Appellate Court of the province and also administrative court of lower judiciary at district and tehsil levels include Sessions courts Civil Judges courts Family courts etc in the province. The principal seat of Lahore High Court is at Lahore and 3 Benches at Rawalpindi Multan and Bahawalpur have been established to facilitate the people and to lessen the burden of cases in Principal seat.The historical and beautiful with its grandeur is located on Mall Road GPO chowk Lahore. Some new courts have been constructed but the architecture has been preserved as same of old building. Court Rooms are sapacious and built keeping in view the weather conditions of the area. However new courts are not so spacious and suffocation is felt when electricity goes on break.Its a really a best piece of architecture of sub continent of Mughal and British heritage. It looks a grand beautiful and suplended. The Lahore high court delivered lot of decisions on various cases some were approved by public with appraise and admiration but some remained under dust. Some judges delivered justice in the real sense of the word and their judgments are still alive and provide guidance to the successors.I pray to Almighty Allah pak, this court may be the symbol of Justice and only Justice and punish the criminals strictly.

A Board of Administration was constituted and the Punjab was divided into Divisions, Districts and Tehsils. The Court of Tehsildar was the lowest court, whilst the Court of the Judicial Commissioner became the highest court in the land.[5]Over time, as appeals to the Chief Court greatly increased, later Acts namely the Punjab Courts Act, (XVII of 1877) and Punjab Courts Act, (XVIII of 1884) repealed earlier Acts and restated the law regarding the courts constitution, powers and jurisdiction.[3]Additional judges were appointed, and greater finality was granted to the decisions of the lower appellate courts.[3] By 1884, there were four classes of courts subordinate to the Chief Court, namely the Divisional Court, the Court of the District Judge, the Court of the Subordinate Judge, the Court of Munsif.

This Indo-Saracenic building was built in 1886-89 as the Punjab Chiefs Court, was designed by Mr. Brossington and work was supervised by the Mr. J. E. Hilton, Executive Engineer with the total cost of Rs. 3, 21, 837.It is found in old records that the place where stands High Court building was the vicinity of shrine of Shah Chiragh, and the Accountant-Generals office was established in the Shrine building for many long years before the construction of this court building.With predecessors fulfilling its purpose since 1866, the Lahore High Court was established on the 21st of March 1919 and 175(2) of the Constitution of 1973 provide insights regarding the jurisdiction of the High Court.
