This mosque is a major tourist attraction in Pakistan, Islamabad in particular, and is referred to as a contemporary and influential feature of Islamic architecture.Construction of the mosque began in 1976 after a $28 million grant fromSaudi King Faisal, whose name the mosque bears. The unconventional design by Turkish architect Vedat Dalokay, was selected after an international competition. Without a typical dome the mosque is shaped like a Bedouin tent, surrounded by four 260 feet (79 m) tall minarets. The design features eight-sided shell shaped sloping roofs forming a triangular worship hall which can hold 10,000 worshippers

Faisal mosque was, is and will in sha ALLAH always be this magnificent and beautiful. But beware of the token mafia sitting at the entrance which is charging an exorbitant amount to collect shoes to safekeep. A great place to just sit and think. The entire mosque is covered in white marble that remains cold, even during the blistering summer heat. The mosque has so much symmetry that actually helps in meditation and detoxification of the mind. Even foreigners are welcome to enter, although a headscarf is recommended for females whilst there.

Its a beautiful mosque in the lap of margalla hills. Its iconic landmark of Islamabad and visible from various locations of Islamabad. This was built in 60s in collaboration and financial assistance of the then ruler of Saudi Arabia, King Faisal. The mosque was named after him. The road leading to this mosque from Faizabad is also named as Faisal avenue. Its very heartening to mention here that unfortunately, our people do not value our assets and leave no stone unturned in spoiling it. People have made it picnic point instead of a worship place. Waste material, plastic bottles etc. may b seen around.

Beautiful place for prayer. Now a days this is more picking place than prayer. Peoples mostly come here only for visit or picking but not for prayer. There is separate area for women’s for praying. Now a days, due to COVID-19 all pool are dry, no water and shower. There are around 10000 people can prayer in the hall and overall more than 40000 people can pray here. Good maintenance overall with all necessary facilities for prayer.

The Faisal Mosque is a mosque in Islamabad, Pakistan and is the national mosque of Pakistan. Upon completion it was the largest mosque in the world and is currently the fifth largest mosque in the world and the largest in South Asia. It is located on the foothills of Margalla Hills in Islamabad. The mosque features a contemporary design consisting of eight sides of concrete shell and is inspired by a Bedouin tent. The impetus for the mosque began in 1966 when King Faisal bin Abdul-Aziz supported the initiative of the Pakistani Government to build a national mosque in Islamabad during an official visit to Pakistan. In 1969, an international competition was held in which architects from 17 countries submitted 43 proposals. The winning design was that of Turkish architect Vedat Dalokay. Forty-six acres of land were assigned for the project and the execution was assigned to Pakistani engineer and workers.Construction of the mosque began in 1976 by National Construction Limited of Pakistan, led by Azim Khan and was funded by the government of Saudi Arabia, at a cost of over 130 million Saudi riyals (approximately 120 million USD today). King Faisal bin Abdul Aziz was instrumental in the funding, and both the mosque and the road leading to it were named after him after his assassination in 1975. King Faisal bin Abdul-Azizs successor Shah Khalid laid the foundation stone for the mosque in October 1976 and signed the construction agreement in 1978. Basic information of the mosque can be found written on the foundation stone. On 18 June 1988, the first prayer was held, although the mosque was completed in 1986. The mosque grounds along with being a building for prayer, also used to house the International Islamic University some years ago but has since relocated to a new campus in 2000. Some traditional and conservative Muslims criticised the design at first for its unconventional design and lack of a traditional dome structure.

The eye-popping Shah Faisal Mosque, nestled at the foot of the Margalla Hills, is one of Asias largest and reflects an eclectic blend of ultramodern and traditional architectural design styles. Topped by sloping roofs (a stark contrast to the traditional domes found on most mosques), the main prayer hall and courtyard is said to hold around 100,000 people. Most of its cost (pegged at about US$120 million today) was a gift from King Faisal of Saudi Arabia.

The security does not allow for young kids to go up in the womens area so you may have to pray outside if you have young kids.We went yesterday and they were collecting 40 rupees per car for entry.
