The Sheranwala Bagh Baradari is a garden pavilion reportedly built by Mahan Singh, the father of the famous Maharaja Ranjit Singh. It is a classic baradari, which literally means 12 doors in reference to the three open bays on each side of the structure. Some sources suggest it was built in 1788 at the behest of Sardar Mahan Singh, but it may have been constructed concurrently with the Mahan Singh Samadhi (tomb) in the 1830s.A reference to the monument can be found in the Handbook of the Panjab written in 1883 by John Murray of London. It describes the site as follows (brackets below not part of the original):At 100 yards to the E. [of the Mahan Singh Samadhi] is the pavilion of Maha Singh, a handsome building, now used as the reading room and meeting room of the Anjuman of the town. Over the door is Babbage Library, 1871. This is Colonel Babbage, son of the famous calculator. The reference is puzzling as it describes the building standing 100 yards to the east of the Mahan Singh Samadhi, when in fact it is about 100 yards south. If this is not an error, the pavilion may have been moved when reconstructed. The site was heavily damaged (possibly destroyed) in 1992 during riots sparked by the wanton destruction of the Babri Mosque by in Ayodhya, India (probably, the baradari was mistaken for a Hindu monument). It stood in ruins for about 20 years until the Qila Deedar Singh municipal authorities sponsored restoration work in 2012, costing 3 million rupees (about $30,000 USD). It has now been faithfully restored (or recreated) by architect Mureed Hussain who headed the restoration work and consulted plans and drawings from the archaeological department to ensure an accurate reconstruction. However, not all critics are pleased. Amardeep Singh, a Sikh cultural historian, particularly laments the state of the frescoes, noting that Even those frescos recreated by art school students lack intricate details and craftsmanship of the original (Singh, p. 379). Still, it is the opinion of this website that when an important item of cultural heritage is destroyed or severely damaged, a sensitive and faithful restoration is a worthwhile endeavor, helping to ensure that the experience of the site lives on for the benefit of current and future generations. For a similar type of baradari, albeit without the corner chambers, see also the Mian Khan Tomb in Lahore, Pakistan.

The only historical landmark at Gujranwala, people shared that Raja Ranjit Singh, the leader of the Sikh Empire, which ruled the northwest Indian subcontinent in the early half of the 19th century was keen to walk in this garden with his Pet Loins in which the garden is named “ShairanWala Bagh” after him few Pehalwan make an Akhara in this Garden and started Wrestling in Desi Style, which is still on a corner of this Garden. Not nicely maintained but still is a good place to spend a good time for walk.

1:They Renovate Barradari of Maharaja Ranjit Sigh but there is no caretaker of baradari the drug addicts and dogs are sleeping every time there. no doubt the visitors are destroying its beauty by putting their dirty shoes and hands on the walls of baradari they throw trash in the garden.2: The should Rebuild walking track the condition of track is very bad..3: There are 4 wrestling areas in a single garden sadly wrestlers are less..from many years all the fountains (3 fountains ) are not working people go there for pee :D :D :D. Shame on former Govt. [ PMl (N) ].. they destroyed our city. They put all our funds on paris (Lahore) ...### Reason behind The Distraction of Shernwala Bagh ###PHA (Parks & Horticulture Authority) is responsible for this mischeap this will happen if give seat of chairman of uneducated idiot Toufeeq Butt what he know about plants, garden and Flowers besides they should hire a person who graduate in botany ( study of plants )
