Magnificent! Work of art! Mind boggling! I can go on and on but you get the picture. This palace is absolutely beautiful and rich in history. Loved being here, missed the light show though. This place is oozing with information and history of Nawabs of Bahawalpur. Its an amazing experience to read about their lives, see the things they used, and knowing how they wholeheartedly annexed with Pakistan. An exquisite learning trip!

If youre ever in Bahawalpur then visiting Noor Mahal should be on your itinerary. As a suggestion you should check it out both in the morning and in the evening just before sunset on Friday, Saturday or Sunday. The army hosts a special light and music show using lasers and projectors to show a visual treat on Noor Mahal. Afterwards you can take tour inside and view the palace. There is a handicrafts and gift shop if you want to do shopping.

I visited Noor Mahal several times but last week I visited to attend a photo walk to explore the Heritage and history of Bahawalpur. A Very well maintained Heritage building, Innovation in architecture is with no doubt extremely important, but preserving and restoring the old buildings is also important because those old monuments are the reflection of our history, they help us to understand and respect people who lived in different eras with different habits and traditions. As well the existence of old monuments will help us observe the changes in the societies for a better understanding of the reasons that lead to the development of cities and societies and even traditions to the current status. Old buildings are the face of cities they reflect the changes that happened in a city over time, they reflect conflicts, wars, and the prosperity of the society, it even reflects the economic condition of the city over time.Bahawalpur is a cultural and historical city. If we go in the history, then we come to know that before the independence of Pakistan Bahawalpur was a princely state founded by Abbasi Family who migrated from Bughdad to sub-continent in the 18th century. Abbasi Family ruled over Bahawalpur more than 200 years (1747-1955). But after migrating to Pakistan in 1947 the Nawab Muhammad Sadiq Khan acceded the Bahawalpur state with Pakistan in 1956 and opened his treasure for Pakistan because the socio-economic condition of Pakistan was very critical. Nawabs made several gorgeous building during their reign , Noor Mahal is one of them.

Noor Mahal the most beautiful place to visit in Bahawalpur,I visited Bahawalpur only for a day. This was my first visit to the city of Nawabs and I did not want to miss the famous historical Noor Mahal to visit. As luck would have it, I reached there at 2:00 PM PST and I was very happy to visit such a historical place as I really love to visit historical places. I am not sure if this takes place on regular basis or not but it was a Saturday noon on 02-01-2021 and I was lucky to witness a beautiful place to visit. On the building of Noor Mahal, they displayed culture and history through different light effects. My request is that whenever you visit Bahawalpur kindly dont forget to visit this place. Its a highly recommended place to visit.

The Noor Mahal is a Pakistan Army-owned palace in Bahawalpur, Punjab, Pakistan. It was built in 1872 like an Italian chateau on neoclassical lines, at a time when modernism had set in. It belonged to the Nawabs of Bahawalpur princely state, during British Raj.Construction started1872Completed1875Size44,600 square feet (4,140 m2)Design and constructionArchitectMr. HeennanThere are various stories regarding its construction. According to one legend, Nawab Adnan Abbasi IV had the palace made for his wife; however, she was only there for one night, as she happened to see the adjoining graveyard from her balcony, and refused to spend another night there, and so it remained unused during his reign.Noor Mehal is one of the hidden gems of Bahawalpur, due to the lack of publicity. The palace is open to public. It is currently in the possession of the Pakistan Army and is used as a state guest house for holding state durbars and meetings with foreign delegations.Mr. Heennan, an Englishman who was the state engineer, designed the building. The foundation of Noor Palace was laid in 1872. A map and coins of the state were buried in its foundation as a good omen. Most of the palaces materials and furniture were imported from England and Italy. The construction of the palace was completed in 1875 at a cost of Rs. 1.2 million. Considering the amount of silver in the Indian Rupee Coin at 11.66 Grams in 1862, this amount in 2016 would come to about 8.1 million US dollars. Noor Palace covers an area of 44,600 square feet (4,140 m2). It has 32 rooms including 14 in the basement, 6 verandas and 5 domes. The design encompasses features of Corinthian and Islamic styles of architecture with a tinge of subcontinental style. The Corinthian touch is visible in the columns, balustrade, pediments and the vaulted ceiling of Durbar Hall. The Islamic style is evident in the five domes, whereas the angular elliptical shapes are a stroke of subcontinent style. Nawab Muhammad Bahawal Khan the fifth added a mosque to the palace in 1906 at the cost of Rs. 20,000. The design is based on the mosque of Aitchison College. In 1956, when Bahawalpur State was merged into Pakistan, the building was taken over by the Auqaf department. The palace was leased to the army in 1971; in 1997 the army purchased it for the sum of 119 million. The building was declared a “protected monument” in September 2001 by the Government of Pakistans Department of Archeology, and it is now open for general visitors, students trips and other interested persons. There are a lot of old things present in it. It includes many Nawabs used things. There are many old swords, old currency notes and coins, old laws that were made in that time, an old piano that Nawabs used to play, old furniture used by Nawabs etc. There is also a long wall in it that contains imaginary pictures of Nawabs. Only one picture is real, all others are imaginary. There is also a prison cell aside the Mahal.

11.09.2020This ancient and stunning structure is under process of maintenance when we visited the palace Noor Mahal. Some of the stuff placed in side the palace doesnt look like old enough and nawab related. One thing i was unable to understand that we entered in a hall and when we reached another hall from that one we wanted to go back to the previous hall, the staff said we can not go back. Completely not understandable. 70%of the palace is closed due to maintenance but no maintenance work was in process except the basement. Stairs were also closed and we went on a long long journey just to visit 2 rooms of the palace. They also built a restaurant and and a marriage hall in side the parks of the palace which is extremely pathatic.

NOOR MAHAL - THE HAVELI OF NAWABOne of the amazing Places of Pakistan similar to Faiz Mahal mainly structure . It takes you to the Royal era of Nawabs. Prince Sadiq was the last ruler of Bahawalpur. Before entrance you need to show your Identity Card and for foreigners, they have to provide their passport. There is a ticket price of 75 Pkr which you need to pay before entrance. If we talk about history then i couldnt find so much details on the walls as everything was mentioned related to military and Army efforts rather than focusing on history.A good place for photography and bridal shoots.
