Been here a few times.Upmarket restaurant situated on the square.Fresh bread/ butter and sausage in a delicious sauce served complimentary with your drinks.Plenty of waiters to assist. A good selection of dishes on the menu. Even though it’s the Butcher Shop they do cater for vegetarians and fish lovers. Pick your own cut to have it prepared the way you like it.

Linda and I had an overall amazing dining experience last night. We were greeted quickly at the door, and completed all the necessary Covid precautions before being shown to our table.All front of house staff were friendly and efficient.Together, we ordered the Wagyu Sirloin steaks and 1kg of prawns. The steak was the best that I have eaten, perfectly cooked. The prawns were large and tasty.We certainly recommend this restaurant to any of our friends and guests.

The steak was perfect. A must try is their pork ribs well grilled. Spinach was excellent. Everything is great here in The Butcher. Except their service, everything was nice except their service. Came here more than once their service is average.

Never enjoyed food so much in my life. Their spinach and butternut are out of this world. The waiter was super kind. Definitely recommend this place. Its worth every penny

This used to be an amazing place to dine but sadly after 2 years of coming back to dine there the service and food has dropped.first time I had the best oxtail there but on the this time around my oxtail was not so tasty at all. The malva pudding was not really tasty.. we love this place but this time around I was disappointed. March 2020

Highly recommend the oyster and snail as starters! the oyster is so fresh and sweet, and the garlic cream sauce of the snail is so delicious that i almost finish all the bread. steak is perfectly cooked. great ambience, staff is very patient and polite.

The service is by far the worst .Have been to The butcher grill in Cape Town on more than once the service was always amazing. The staff continuously provided world class set .The waiter seemed like he was uninterested while serving us.The plates were dirty the floor was filthy this is defiantly not the standard I had expected. Disappointed and defiantly not coming back.The waiter that was serving us is (Advisor) He defiantly tainted tainted the Franchise’s reputation.

Food is good, not great. Service is slow and the waiter (who was elderly than the others) couldnt quite understand what we were asking for, even though it was on the menu. If youve been to the Cape Town branch, youll also find the Sandton branch disappointing in comparison in terms of food and service.

Excellent service, lovely steaks and great selection of wine.My colleague and I enjoyed a fantastic meal here, with our informative waitress ensuring we were in the best position to make a choice from the extensive menu. The butcher Shop is a great grill. It is very popular with the locals and for very good reasons. The original restaurant has expanded along both sides of the covered ailse one side of the Mandela Square.The Restaurant has a very wide selection of meats and fish both local and choice foreign. There are also a wide range of drinks including wine menu.The staff are efficient and friendly, food is promptly served. Patrons can even select the cuts prior to cooking

Good variety of selection of meat, the price is a bit high but it good meat, ordered a medium rare rump, it was delicious. FYI, the minimum cut is 300g, so for the ladies and gents who wants to eat less than that, apparently you need the managers approval to have the meat cut less than 300g. Overall, good restaurant and good meat.

The food itself wasnt bad, but it was a really uncomfortable and unenjoyable dining experience.The steak was done very well, and taste was great, the starters were also fantastic. However the service was absolutely atrocious. We were only half way done though our starters and had some salads left, the waitress without asking cleared everything before we were finished to serve the mains.We thought the better as it might have been a misunderstanding, when the mains were served, again we had not finished everything and our table was already being cleared.The waitress just gave us an extremely unpleasant look as if we owed her something. Asking for dessert menu seemed like we were asking for too much.Not enjoyable at all.

Never been to a restaurant where you first ask the chef to cut off your piece of steak before! Very busy, bustling restaurant with modern decor. A little noisy due to its popularity but that didnt detract from the great steak and very tasty chips.

Probably known as the original place for corporates to have dinner. Its been around for quite sometime and we have always taken our colleagues here for a team lunch or dinner. Conveniently situated in Nelson Mandela Square. Their steaks are always good. Service is great, i personally think the decor needs a bit of an update.

Unfortunately, our latest visit was a let down. Meat was not cooked to specifications. For the price quality should have been better.

This is a huge restaurant situated at Nelson Mandela Square. The staff are very courteous and the ambiance is nice.I ordered a T-bone which came with mashed potatoes. The meat was juicy...I enjoyed it but some bites tasted funny, that’s why I didn’t give it five stars...

Heritage steak restaurant with original colonial vibes. We were disappointed by the service & our steak order came out wrong with medium vs. rare, but still had a great dinner. Good spot for tourists & visitors. Don’t miss the deli section. Not gentle on the wallet.

Must visit when you are in Nelson Mandela Square Sandton - Amazing lunch time meals offered, served between 12pm and 5pm. We had the fish and chips and the pulled lamb pita, totally delicious. Incredible liquor range available and awesome staff. Smoking cognac lounge available.

Probably one of the best steak house I went to in a very long time. Food and wine were perfect. You can chose your piece of meat. And the service was excellent.If you are in Sandton. You must book a table here.Went back again twice this year. Still perfect!

Highly recommended. The ultimate fine dining experience! Had the halloumi and calamari salad - which was more than a generous portion and absolutely scrumptious. They have a very interesting dessert selection - will definitely return to try it out.

What can be said about this place other than it’s fantastic. Good selection of steaks both fresh and aged. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Definitely should be on your list, your taste buds will appreciate it.

Went the yesterday 1 August, it was my birthdayI ordered Lamb shank. It was not smelling good and it has some whitish colour.I didnt sleep i had a running stomach tjoooThey gave me an old meat.

First time at lunch. Was seated at the bar as place was packed and was by myself. Braced myself for a long wait for food as it was very busy but to my pleasant surprise my meal came within 30 mins of ordering. Wine by the glass selection could be more varied but otherwise, it hit the spot!

What can I say... the steak was on point. Loved every minute of my time at the restaurant. They have very experienced patrons who are well conversant with the various meat options

One of the nice thing about this restaurant is that you can hand-pick your cut and it will be grilled the way you like it.I chose a pretty thick rib-eye and though it arrived with a perfect sear, it was fridge-cold in the center. When I tried sending it back I got the response that it was on me because I chose a thick cut. They ultimately did take it back but its the attitude that gets me.Ive spent over a year in South Africa and Ive always found that steaks are grilled exactly as ordered. Too bad an exception to this should happen in a restaurant thats supposedly pretty high end, and definitely pricey.

OMG. Steak heaven!

This place is Brilliant. Staff and friendly and service is good. They start you off with complementary bread and wors which is very tasty. The starters portions are quite big. The fillet steak is very tender and quality of the meat is good. You can even chose your own cut of meat from the butcher. Very nice atmosphere and good ambience. Overall great food and good service.

Delicious steak! My sirloin was cooked perfectly and had a great flavor. I ordered the cream spinach to go with it and that was also delicious. The only issue I had was that the food came out a little cold. My father sent his back. The scenery here is really nice and the prices were great for what we received.

What a great experience we had! Good food and friendly staff. Will recommend this place to everyone. A bit pricey, but worth it!

The selection is amazing. I stuck mostly to appetizers so I could sample more food. The complementary beef boerewors is nothing to rave about but decent. The game carpaccio was a nice twist on a favorite of mine while the tartare required a bit too much work on my part to get right. Pretty cool concept though. The black mushroom stole the show for me. Amazing! This place is well worth the hype - definitely stop by when in Sandton.

Because of Isaac i will never go back, because of the horrible bad service we received from, his very rude and doesnt know what customer service is, i was shocked to find out his even the manager, i will never go back.

I had read reviews about the Butcher shop and really looked forwarded to dining here.The restaurant is huge and very impressive especially the butcher shop where they display the meats. Quite an extensive menu with a very nice wine list.My wife ordered the filet was very satisfied. I am a ribeye fan but wasnt impressed with my steak. Disappointed. We both got sweet potato which were white and sweet.You can order different sauces on the side, extra of course.

Stylish, upscale dining with a game of the day option. I enjoyed a springbok steak and it was excellent. The wine list is too notch. Service was attentive. Highly recommended.

Well structured and easily available

It was recommended by a friend, we had Filet, medium rare... what a treat, perfect temperature , succulent piece of beef filet.Only disappointed by inadequacy of the bar, as they had no Martini to offer, I could get a vodka tonic but alas no Martini.

My first time experience at the place i asked the waiter for the best option in the house and he took us to the butcher shop where we had to pick our own meat with the help of the chef who was good. After meal we asked for the bill and was about to tip of the waiter but he was forcing us to give him 10.5% of the bill amount. I was shocked as first he had to take us to chose our meal which i think cost u 3 mtimes as much and he was demanding % of whatever we ate it was not good experience to be honest this sounds like robbing customers

Yes, they are extremely expensive but they have the most wonderful steaks in all the kingdom. Save up and go there with your family. You’ll be so glad you did.My son is begging me to go there with just him and I. He sees it as a special place with the finest quality steaks that exceed his expectations. And he’s only 11 years old.A must! Just do it!

Had ribeye medium rare for dinner. Would definitely recommend visiting to experience South African steaks.Pros: ribeye was delicious and I would recommend getting medium rare as they do tend to cook it slightly more than requested. Also South African steaks seem to be leaner so medium rare is definitely the way to go. Service was great and view is also great.Cons: relatively higher in price but the location calls for it.

Restaurant is over crowded with tourists and tour groups. Service was rather slow. Steak was over priced too for its average quality. One of the 2 steaks I tried had tough meat. Not coming back here.

For me Im vegan, and i found the restaurant really good.The veggi burger is really nice, made of soy beans and herbs, teast really good and delicious.The service overall is nice but it take long time to have the meal, the there was only a few customers and they took long time to prepare the food, i dont know how it will be when its full.The general image, the restaurant is good, and i will come again for sureGood luck and keep it up

Meat! Amazing quality meat and for tourists the value is superb.What a treat this was, the wait staff were that lovely balance of professional, knowledgable and relaxed. The Somm (Terrence) was a pleasure and the walk in wine room is full of wonderful options at excellent value for visitors. €60 for an 18 year old beautiful wine.The steak is simply superb, SA beef deserves its reputation, melt in the mouth! Sides almost as good.I want to go back tomorrow!

Fantastic steak in a nice setting. Not too busy when we were there, and waiters were up to scratch.

Having asked for rare, the fillet steak looked great at first, as you can see in the picture. But as I soon found out, the piece was still cold. After sending it back, it came back reheated, but still cold. Third time I suggested cooking it medium rare, to ensure good temperature throughout. I got a new cut, which also arrived cold.The manager then told me that rare and medium rare cuts can sometimes be served cold...Finally changed my order to a sirloin steak, which was good, but meanwhile the rest of my family had finished their plates.Our waiter was great, but management and chefs were absolutely terrible. Their attitude only made it worst.I do not recommend this restaurant to anybody.

Service was very mediocre and food very aversge.

Had a fantastic, perfectly cooked, and very expensive 400g waygu ribeye served with some nice whole grain mustard (this is the only place Ive seen serve it this way). Wait staff is friendly and attentive but not very knowledgeable about the house wines.

Best meat in the city

We went on a Saturday night. Restaurant was super busy, Food took quite long to get to us. Presentation of food js very boring and underwhelming, but the taste is GREAT. We had fillets all round as well as dessert. Food is quite expensive, but quality is good. Waiter was very friendly, we really liked him.

Fantastic selection and service

Very over rated. Service is excellent. Food was Okay. Bland. My steak was not well seasoned or basted. The salmon was overcooked and dry. No lemon butter. Just a piece of dry salmon and a bowl of white rice.I and my wife were really disappointed considering the price we paid.

Great service, great looking restaurant. Had a Rump steak today with a beautiful pepper sauce. The quality of the meat was excellent, I would say it was close to the best steak Ive ever had.

The food was awesome. But the poor service we received from the manager name Welcome (show on name tag). We had a meal that was not cooked in our expectation and was given something else to replace it. The incorrect meal was removed from the table and later the replacement meal was brought to us. When the bill arrived, the meal that was removed was still on the bill. The manager was very rude and unprofessional to our party of ten. Poor service will make people not come back

My experience was very positive. The service was very good and the food was delicious. South African beef can dry out quickly so recommend the rarer side of medium for the local steaks.

This restaurant was a disappointment. My wine had something in it and the waitor plus manager we anything but pleasant.My salad had the most bitter greens! They have such a lovely establishment in such a prime location but the staff I encountered had bad attitude.I do think they have a lovely restaurant but they do need to train their staff to treat customers better.My partner did enjoy his meal though so I do think my experience is not what happens generally.Staff training is vital. I hope they improve!
