Its commandant/CEO is a serving Major General of Army Medical Corps. It has one deputy commandant with the rank of brigadier and two assistant commandants (administrators) with the rank of Colonel. Its family wing is looked after by a Lady Medical Officer with the rank of brigadier. It is an affiliated hospital of the Army Medical College and Armed Forces Post Graduate Medical Institute, Rawalpindi. It is also a teaching institution for nurses and paramedics. The hospital, established in 1857, has 1200 beds for in-patient treatment. The hospital comprises three medical units, Departments of Surgery, Family Medicine, Dermatology, Pediatrics, Gynecology and Obstetrics, and Department of Intensive Care Units. The bed occupancy rate is about 95 percent. The General Medical Council of the UK recognizes the hospital for postgraduate training in various disciplines. The hospital looks after a variety of patients and the medical students of this college are given practical clinical training by the various specialists and professors. The hospital also provides tertiary care facilities. The Hospital is still the largest, despite that its Radiology, Ophthalmology and Psychiatry departments are now independent units with their own administrative set up but no physical boundaries. On 23 June 2019, the hospital suffered damage due to a blast 4

For civilians the OPD opens after 3pm, near OPD there is central registry in the basement where the civilian will go to deposit Doctors consultation fee. This place is full of rush due to all the patients gathered there to deposit their fee.PEMH should take some action to improve this place and at least give some respect to the civilian who are paying their doctors.

One of the best cardic hospital of Pakistan. Latest machinery is available in this hospital. Care of patients is taken up to the maximum possibility. Doctors are well experienced and courteous. Specially meant for military persons however civilians are also allowed and also treated here. A bit expensive for non entitled patients. It is located opposite to sadar bazar Rawalpindi. Recommended for cardic patients.

Reasonably better medical services being provided to a huge number of persons and their families. Complaints are addressed. Staff behavior sometimes not polite but people are also guilty for that. They neither follow rules nor take care of cleanliness. Difficulties for attendances from far away regarding night stays. People sleep on benches when weather allows. Canteens have reasonable rates for food.
