Ive been in here a couple of times and they sometimes have decent items but to be honest everything is just kinda overpriced youre better off buying a refurbished laptop or computer on Ebay. On the other hand the staff are very nice and the building is nice and clean. This store could have a lot of potential if they simply lowered the prices.
Its a Thrift Store for Computers and related electronics. Good if youre looking for older PC stuff. Inventory is constantly changing.
What happened? At their previous location on 72nd street, The Goodwill GoodBytes store was a haven for computer hobbyists; old computer parts like sound cards/video cards for $5, $10 printers, even 12 records to browse through. Now, everything (except for certain laptop/desktop computers) is FAR OVERPRICED. These are set-in-stone pre-haggle pawn shop prices for the items! I understand that proceeds help Goodwills mission, but having to pay so much more now is NOT FUN.
I had bought a laptop from them that was promised to be in 100% working condition. I paid somewhere close to 150 dollars for this laptop. They told me it has been checked by professionals and would work right away. I took it to school so I could use it for class, only to find out the battery didnt hold a charge. It would turn on and work however. No problem I thought, so I took it back after class about an hour and a half later. They told me they would not fix it nor would they refund me. They told me I could have swapped the battery out, since their professionals would have noticed something like this. They accused me of tampering with it.They effectively stole 150 dollars from me, who at the time was a very poor student. I do not recommend this place.
Two things Ive bought from there dont work. Spent over 100 bucks on junk that looked really nice but had hardware issues.
Wont be back. Prices higher than eBay on donated items. Visit Bens Game Zone if you are looking for games. Better prices, better paid employees, and the store actually purchases their inventory.Dont donate to goodwill. Part of making a donation is to help your community. These jerks take anything valuable from your local store and shift it to this location or ebay to sell at a crazy price. This benefits no one here.
I was pretty disappointed by my experience here. The staff was friendly, and I have no qualms about the performance of those individuals. Heres where things went wrong for me. Its off-putting to know that the Goodbytes inventory is driven by donations, and yet the prices for most of their games are higher than what youd pay at local game stores. On top of that, they do not accept returns on games or systems. They offer a testing station if you ask, so you can test hardware and software before you buy it, which would be fine if they were charging the low prices they ought to be charging. This begs the question, why shop here for your gaming needs when you can go to Bens Game Zone, Pop Culture Exchange or Gameroom for less money where you have access to expertly curated stock and good warranties on used, clean and tested products? Also infuriating: theres a baseline price of 4.99 on ALL games and anything that is worth more is marked accordingly, and again usually hovers a few dollars above the market value youd find anywhere else. This all but guarantees the store to have a never-ending selection of 1 dollar bargain bin games that virtually no one will buy for 5. Its probably worth checking out from time to time, but it may be unreasonable to expect the deals Goodwill is known for.EDIT: I’m downgrading my review, previously 2 stars, to 1 star after the condescending copy/paste response to my original review. Rather than address the actual problems with their pricing structure at Goodbytes, there seems to be an effort to discredit many reviewers with similar complaints to mine. Directing the conversation to the many charitable causes sponsored by Goodwill is a not-so-subtle attempt to distract from the very real concerns raised by many about the way this store operates. I’d guess most people are aware of the many good things Goodwill does for communities, and most of us are regular donors to Goodwill, but I fail to see how the critiques of the real problems with this store are somehow made less valid by Goodbytes’ response to my review. It is what it is. Hopefully, these issues will be addressed some day. I think Goodbytes would stand a much better chance of raising more money to fund programs for the underserved if the products they sell were actually refurbished and priced appropriately.
Great computers and electronics at good prices. Knowledgeable staff. Inventory touch and go, but I found what I needed.
Really gone down hill from when it first opened. I used to find cool, unique stuff for a reasonable price. Now its rare I find something interesting and at a decent price. One of the workers explained that they sell a lot of stuff on eBay. I get annoyed when I see them selling something that was donated to them for not much less than new, and then offer no warranty.
I honestly hope that someone that is thinking about visiting this store takes the time to read this.Let me preface with a quote that Ive seen all over this google page. Skip to end of quote to see how i feel about this store.Hi, *insert name*. We can assure you that none of our stores, including GoodBytes, is partaking in any kind of price gouging. Where else can you get a refurbished laptop for as little as $130? When our pricing specialists research what items are likely to sell for — especially high-value and high-demand items — they scour many sites on the internet, including eBay. They watch what items sell for, and, based on those numbers and IRS guidelines, they determine the price by calculating the fair market value of each item. This value is also what the donor can claim as a tax deduction for the item. Our donors choose Goodwill because they know were a nonprofit organization, and the money from the sale of their donated items subsidizes our employment programs, which help thousands of people find gainful work every year. We have a responsibility to our donors to charge a fair price for their donated goods, just as we have a responsibility to give our customers a great deal on those items.First of all, if you are actually refurbishing your computers are you doing it through an official company outside of just plugging it in, turning it on and seeing if it flashes/makes hard drive noises? The prices you charge on these computers is outrageous because if it were non profit I wouldnt have to walk in and look at an i3-4th gen tower that still has dust caked inside of it. Anyone that is looking for a tower, message me and I will personally find one for you that will work and probably cheaper than theyll charge you for a much much newer system.NONE of these products are worth what you claim them to be. AND the fact that you are charging people for the prices of $130 for a used laptop that I can buy at Walmart for $99. Ill be it the Walmart laptop runs about as fast as a turtle at 2 GB of ram. You at least have the opportunity for a warranty. And you say [your pricing sPeCiALiSts] scour many sites on the internet, including eBay. Tells me that they see the first highest price they find, walks to the nearest computer/console/game and slaps that bad-boy with a sticker of whatever price they want.I can tell you first hand that Ive purchased things from shopgoodwill website and bought many of these items at a literal fraction of this price DURING Covid-19. I know shopgoodwill is a bidding price but if the people dont pay near $110 for a Nintendo Wii from 2007, why would a person pay for something in a store where they can shop online to find these items. You say that these are the prices people can use for tax reductions, but how often do people actually come inside to see what the price of their beloved nintendo wii that they or their children/grandchildren probably played with until they were grown?First hand experience, (and maybe this is my own ignorance) I have never been through a goodwill and dropped my stuff off and then been informed of my ability to claim my stuff as a donation when filing taxes.Your efforts to pay your employees through selling your products is greatly appreciated because it means people have the opportunity to work with you. But if you cant sell it, then why would you bother hiring someone to begin with?Examples of over priced items:Misc. Games- Pokemon platinum $99 open box. (online price 60 dollars)Dragon ball z BT3 - $99 open box and destroyed.(Online price 80 dollars)Nintendo Wii - $110 busted and dusty.(Online prices 50-75 dollars complete in box)Dont get me started on the PCs, monitors, and other miscellaneous items in the store.Rather than addressing the individual persons google review with a blanket response as to what your company does, how about a review of what prices and the different things happening in your store.
They place is price gaudging due to the pandemic! They are supose to be helping and giving to the community not scaming and stealing. Please stay away dont suport them. Everything is donated to them this is very disgusting.
Great place to donate old and obsolete hardware and tech. Look around you might discover a gem in the rough or a hidden deal. I usually check out the used DVDs for sale. Ive gotten some great deals and found some titles you cant get on Netflix anymore so it was worth it.
Wow, new location is so much nicer!
This place is terrible. They sell faded monitors with exhausted backlights, and overpriced obsolete computers. They had some vintage laptops that looked interesting, however the boneheads running this place decided to remove the optical drives, ram and all of the covers. Why would anyone want to buy a completely stripped out laptop with NO COVERS? I can understand removing the hard drives, but its not necessary to remove everything else.
A good place to buy used electronics! But you have to know what you are buying. My daughter bought a keyboard and speakers here. They do test the computers they sell.*Addendum* If you want a very inexpensive computer, you can buy a tower, monitor, keyboard, mouse, various cables, and running Windows 7 for about $230.00. Could be better than eBay...
Always great to find electronics for pretty much any need. Sometimes you find a rare gem, and it truly makes your day. I especially enjoy the low price on laptops, and there is always an extra cord of you need one.
Do not underestimate this store because its a Goodwill. I got a lot of very useful parts from here.
I really like that I can turn in my eWaste/electronic recycling here and it will actually do someone some good.
Good products and prices
I love the prices and the time the staff took to explain everything to me. They had a large selection of computers and other electronic equipment.
If youre looking for a monitor, cables, keyboards, speakers, mics, or low wattage power supplies, theyre here... and theyre pretty cheap. For higher end used stuff youre better off trying Cross Computing.
Used to be a good place to grab cheap computers or parts. Lately, stock is nonexistent, staff isnt helpful. Ive been taking my business to some other used electronics stores
Find some great items here. Stop there when in town to see if they have anything I would like.
Everything there is considerably older, but if youre looking for something cheap to upgrade they have options. Laptops would make good school computers.
Love this store! We dont have much money and my son is REALLY into computers. He just built two of his own and this store made all that possible! Thank you, Goodwill/Goodbytes!
They accept all electronics for free.
Good place to find used computers.
Friendly help. Pay by pound, for things the other goodwill could not sell. Huge bins with stuff just thrown in it. Shoes with no matches, broken items, puzzle pieces just thrown in. Prices a little high. Nothing organized.
Great place to shop if you like tech
A crazy way to spend an afternoon....people fighting over junk....a wild ride...try it sometime....its fun to just watch
Typewriters and polaroid slides are here. Relics from the distant past. As well as plenty of great desktops and laptops that have been refurbished. Ive never purchased one from here. But Goodwill has always been a stand up non-profit in my book.
Used to be a great place to shop. Manager has become cranky and one of the female employees is always on her phone and gets upset when she needs to help customers. Prices have been raised dramatically, even on broken items. The value and friendliness I used to find is long gone.
Easy to drop off my old desktops
I always randomly visit this place. Sometimes you can get a good deal on something they have no clue what it is or what its worth.
Cool oddshop however if youre looking for a part to build an old rig- look elsewhere. All they have is prebuilt computers, monitors, old games and chords that may or may not be useful to you.Just looking was cool enough and I did walk away with a disk reader and a few DS games bug not much more.
Awesome place! Got a perfectly good monitor to be used as a second screen for my computer for $10 with cables included! They had tons to choose from, VGA, HDMI, DVI, or all of the above. Also seen a few neat items that they carried.
Quick and easy. Friendly staff. Just went to return previously purchased items from over 90 days ago. Because I had a receipt I received full value of my purchase and it was put on in-store credit.
I enjoy donating computers when I find one left behind by a renter
Great deals on every thing they have most of the time. But the last 2 times Ive been in there its been all changed around and there are no deals to be had.
The prices here are incredible. I got out of there for $20. If I would have bought all that stuff new it would have easily been $400. Ill be back many times.
Easy to donate old computer equipment. They had carts to bring the stuff in with.
Mostly junk, but occasionally some interesting stuff.
Its nice to have a place to go to that will recycle electronics for free.
Great selection. I got lots of good stuff for about $20, including a USB floppy drive, an Apple USB keyboard, several old computer books for $1 apiece, and a really good pair of speakers for $5. Most things are very clearly marked as to whether they are tested and working or not. Service was good as far as I saw -- they let my friend test a pair of speakers before he purchased them! I will be going back there for more stuff for sure -- especially the VHS tapes. I even referred my workplace to them, and a coworker and I got a good Insignia TV for $10 yesterday.
I gave this business a five star rating because even though it can be a real hit and miss when it comes to opportunity for what your looking for, I love the concept of recycling technology that one person may no longer use. So instead of keeping stuff lying around that is no longer used like outdated laptops, PCs, DVD players, game consoles, etc... one can recycle it here for someone else to use. ( which is way better than going to the landfill.) Its especially a great store to shop at if you have the knowledge on how to build used/custom/made to order laptops. So dont just throw away what you may perceive as junk. Give it a second chance to serve a purpose. Even if its broken someone may be able to salvage the hard drive, graphics card, processor or something from it. It could even be THAT ONE they were looking for.
Good Place but not a huge collection!!
Amazing place, sort of like Free Geek but without the volunteering and recycling for metals. If youre a techie in the area definitely check it out
You have drop off two different areas. One is electronics area and other items another area. No actually drop of center. Parking not great either. Not impressed at all. Thing twice before giving things again.
Only bad thing, all handicapped parking spots had non-handicapped vehicles in the spots. Some people are just jerks!
When I first walked in, i was surprised how Big it is . One side is electronics, and then the other side has huge bins of Clothes, households ,shoes. Toys, its ACTUALLY REALLY FUN!! DEFINITELY A MUST GO. BUT I WARN YOU!! YOU CANT GO JUST ONCE!!!
Alot of stuff still in really good shape
Place is typically picked over. You might be able to find a good deal on an old PC if you are looking for something for a project or low end server. Many if not all items, are very used.
If you havent been here in a few years you should go back! This store has come a long way since opening. It is very well organized now and carrying a whole lot more high quality stuff. If you have old tech and need an obscure part or just a cord. Try here first you just might find what you need.
Got a lot of great stuff to pick and choose from, really wish they had a few bins with parts from different computers. Some staff members could be kinder and more helpful though.
Great place for a alright computer. At a very low budget. Sell huge array of wires and cables for any thing computer and home theator.
Went in there to check it out. There were some decent games that had been ready to go out on the floor. When I asked if they were for sale the gentleman working the counter said in about 30 minutes. So I left came back and the same guy said oh I cant find those games now they are gone. They pulled a nice switch a roo and either kept them for themselves or sold to a buddy while I was gone during the 30 minute stocking period. Very shady and not a professional way to do business. Watch out for this place if you see something you better wait the 30 minute period to buy it.
In and out in 15 mi utes had exactly what i needed- a new keyboard and mouse.
Great deals on old electronics. Sales rep is willing to show you items off the back shelf with no hesitation. Good place to wander for treasures
The electric are OVER PRICE
Looking for any second hand electronic goods??? First consider Goodwill GoodBytes. It has provided me with many stuff I needed initially when I moved in to new apartment.
Really did not like the whole setup at this store. Over priced computers and accessories. These people are taking advantage of the people who do not have experience with electronics and are making a killing from outdated junk.
Ataff has alor of drama but they are nice and try to keep the drama from customers. I think it would be better if they could use their own discretion on certain items instead of selling g for a flat fee of 20$ or pay by the pound. Some items arent worth 20$ and they weigh 30-40 pounds. Other than that its great!!
Subpar prices, mediocre tech. Just go on ebay.
This store has a great selection, because their prices are so high; they dont sell much. About 75% more than they should be, and you dont even get a monitor or keyboard, mouse. They take a free computer and charge you 179.00 + plus +. Dont waste your time going there.
Fun place to shop, ill go again soon
Bought a relay good used laptop for less than 200. very happy
Great place to find cheap electronics of all kinds.
Great place to grab some electronics. Laptops are refurbished and have Windows 10 installed before they are sold.
This place is truly awesome! They have cables, printers, scanners, routers, harddrives, monitors, ect. You name it. All extremely affordable. Most times you will need to know what your looking for, and some of it is older. Lets say you need a specialty cable, most likely that have it. All kinds of gems there. Theres even a basket if ram at the checkout desk, if you are will to go Thur it one by one you might find one for your computer. Everyone loves this place, plus its good will so they give back to the community!
Loved it thank u
People donate their electronics for free and when you go to buy something, what crazy prices they have on their items. Really??
It is well organized but never seems to have anything that excites me as a must-buy purchase when I visit. It could be great if you are looking for a very specific used cable, accessory, or computer part.
They have a lot of older computer parts and parifferals and the people working there are always nice and will test out things before you buy the, if they can.
Good prices and plenty to look at.
They can have some good computer peices.
You can find better prices online, not much selection.
Very overpriced considering the age and speed of the computers they sell.
I dont know i keep coming back at this place but computers attract my attention
I was looking for a laptop and they had just what I wanted at a reasonable price!
Anything and everything. A real fun treasure hunt awaits!
You have better odds finding electronics next door at the wearhouse... But great for computer monitors, PC adapters, misc PC equipment and cords.
I really like this place
Was not impressed, although they did except our old flat screen, they wouldnt e en hold t.v he door open so we could bring it in. They were watching tv.
Great place to check when youre looking for an old adapter or computer part you need for a good price.
I think their scale was off because the items we bought could not have been 4.5 pounds. Thats why i have 4 stars. They control the people that can get a little crazy which was nice.
The clerk made the visit. He greeted me at the door,, He left egHat he was doing it go answer my questions quickly efficiently AMD left after asking if I needed anything else.. I did find what I was looking for a used laptop in my price range. Note go staff the prices you listed for computers was. Beyond marketplace imho and by a significant amount. My kudos to the clerk plus take a second look at pricing
Kinda high prices for what they had too offer
Good will on 72 st managers and e.ployees are arragant place is filthy. Looks like Garbage...
I guess its okay. Need people to know more about whats in the store and what it does. And how it works or if it works.
Fun can find good used tech
Been going here for years and always amazed what I find. Got my little niece her first setup. Tower, Monitor with HDMI and loud speakers, Crayola keyboard, sweet mouse, USB headset, webcam with shutter, printer, and of course FNAF from Steam
Cool stuff thats different every visit. Knowledgeable staff.
This place has just about every kind of used electronic device you can think of. There were many refurbished desktops and monitors available as well as parts. Lots of laptops for parts, keyboards, dvds, vhss, VCRs,camera bags. No gaming systems but lots of gaming accessories and games. If you know your way and computer hardware this is a stop for you.
Cheap refurbished computers. Very hit or miss, prices are generally very low, but an exceptional deal is hard to come by. Looking for obscure gear is nearly pointless, but good for a starter computer if you dont want to break the bank.
Great opportunity to help the initiative and score some decent quality hardware with Windows 7 professional.
Dropped by to see how their computer monitor selection was today and found a good deal. Staff was friendly and helpful.
Nice place to go when and if you need older goods. Nice selection of LCD monitors in the 4:3 aspect ratio.
Clean, bright, restrooms big and clean. GREAT prices!
Mostly old monitors and dead printers, look elsewhere for cool finds.
