For the people who are into reading this this a pretty great place which also has an in house cafe.you can sit and read the book you like and also purchase..They do have. One of the largest collections and in case if they run out of stock you can get the book within a week. The vintage look ads the feel to the atmosphere..There is a lack of parking spots but there are few paid parking areas nearby..They do have book readings and other programs...

WAS INSULTED BY THE STAFFRecent visit was not satisfactory. I have been visiting this place since 2014. After Oxford Bookstore shutdown Kitab Khana became the go to place for all the readers in Sobo.Today (5/09/2020) I was very excited to visit the bookstore once again as the lockdown restrictions were lifted. I entered the store at 1.25pm and I was greeted with a welcoming Namaste at the door. I browsed through the bookshelves but there were no recent releases. I later came to know through am employee that they dont offer the 20% discount anymore, which was understandable with the Pandemic crippling the bookstore business. I wanted One hundred years of solitude but they didnt have it. I browsed for another 10mins. As I began to walk towards the exit gate. The security gaurd blocked my way. I gave him my token(I had dropped my bag at the door) and he gave me my bag. Later he asked me to plz stand still as he wanted to take my talashi. Without my consent he touched me in this Pandemic situation and he said that I was good to go. A couple of people standing behind me were allowed to go without this so called talashi. I was insulted. I was embarrassed. I asked him why did he not check their clothes. He said nothing.I have also noticed that foreigners are allowed with their huge backpacks to browse the store. But I was always asked to keep my bag at the door. I felt that this was discriminatory. I had not mentioned earlier that Im dark in skin tone with ample amount of melanin. I couldve bought the book off Amazon. It would be cheaper and convenient. Minus the embarrassment that I faced. I wanted to support our local bookstore. But us Indians dont deserve comunity welfare ans support. We will always be drowing in our prejudices. Readers are not thieves. Readers dont rob books from their local bookstore. I am deeply hurt. This was not expected from the staff at Kitab Khana.P.S:- This was not the first time that I visited the bookstore and didnt purchase anything. I used vidit there during my college days. Ive seen others do it too.

Do you like books? Do you love the sound of your footsteps falling softly over the wooden floor? Do you adore those fancy twisted wooden staircases indoors? What about a cafe inside a book store? You get them all here. This is one of my favorite haunts in the city! I have spent hours here, missed it when I was away from home, returned to it like you meet your old friend and embrace after a long long time... this place grows on you with every small visit and stays in your memory like the pressed leaf you keep in your personal diary at the back of your drawer. It looks really attractive from the outside but once you step in and browse around, you’ll find it overrated and hyped. The book collection is modest. Very random yet cliched. Management, Fiction and Children’s section are prominent and an upstairs section which has Gujarati, Marathi and some other unnamed section. It was for the first time that I went in a bookstore and came out without buying anything. Not even on impulse. I’ve found better books right across the street under the Oriental Building. As opposed to Kitab Khana, Title Waves at Bandra West is a much better place. I was on my way to buy the books in Colaba that’s when I see a historic vintage brown colored 150 years old building in which there is book store named “Kitab Khana” near Kala Ghoda, Churchgate which attracted me to go into that book store. Walking down to that book store, there was a good peaceful feeling. Also, Kitab Khana was surrounded by number of restaurants around. At the entrance, there was a list of rules to follow. Watching people reading books, studying and librarian guiding them about the books to the new people coming out there. There were multiple sections for Novels, Action & Adventure Books, Horrors Romance and Poetry and how can we forget Children’s Section?Kitab Khana is basically a House Café where one can sit and read books and they also give you an option to purchase the book you like and they avail the service of Membership into their Book Store. The Kitab Khana working hours are from 10:30 AM to 7:00 PM sharp. The Staff of Kitab Khana is very helpful and courteous and they always come up if you need some guidance regarding a book or a novel and they also give you a brief about the Book Store and the stock of books available at the store. Also they have “Staff Recommendations” for specific shelf of books there in the store. The best thing about Kitab Khana is that they sort out the books and novels you want them to remove and keep, so you can ready-to-take upon your Mail confirmations.A unique thing about this Bookstore is its Café inside which is a hidden gem for the people who are entering the “Kitab Khana” for the first time and also a ‘cherry on the top’ for the existing members of Kitab Khana. Because, why not? People love eating while reading their favorite books. The name of the Café inside Kitab Khana is “Food For Thought”. The menu of the café serves Mini Meals, Offbeat Thalis, Sandwiches and many more food with their lip-smacking coffees and desserts for our Bookworms.
