Incredible finds! I spent well over an hour here and still didn’t get around everywhere. Will be back very soon to make more purchases and explore new parts of the store! The books are all so well put out and in sections so they are easy to find. Can’t believe I’ve been five minutes away from this gem!

This is a great bookshop. It has an awesome variety of books for school age children and is mostly cheaper than Dymocks.

Whether its to find the perfect novel for that rainy afternoon, or the guidebook to travel the world (when our borders open again!), Berkelouw Books on Norton St at Leichhardt is the perfect destination.

After speaking with the manager/boss on the phone regarding selling some books he alluded to needing to check if the book buyers would be still there. I drove 35 mins to the underground carpark, unloaded my books, all in mint condition or new, hard covers and currently for sale in the shop, not scruffy paper back novels. The book buyer made small talk before spending 15mins stacking the books in piles, then moving them from one pile to another. Occasionally he would take some books over to some others out of eyesight and return and put a book back. At one point he said oh you were the one i spoke to before on the phone. I can see why he makes the attempt to distance himself or the staff from the actual shop, slip of the tongue made it pretty clear what was going on. I had far less books for my return journey somehow. After a speech about how hard it is to sell second hand books he ummd and ahhd before offering $60 for around 80 immaculte, recent, large glossy books. That is the definition of a vulture, a scumbag. A business that sources its stock by taking advantage of people who may be in need of money and reselling at a premium. So next time you consider buying a book from here, just be aware that it may indeed have been purchased by someone so desperate for money that they would sell to this tall, immaculately presented smiling vulture whos business model appears to be based on hoping that people are either so desperate for money or just cant be bothered packing their books back into their car after this human effluent has just wasted 1.5hrs of their time. Absolutely disgusting behaviour. Yotam Ottolenghi - Plenty is an example of one of my books that was new as the books in the shop, it had not been read and not a mark. A quick search finds it selling for $49.99. Nice mark up, do you buy all the books you sell for $50 for 80c second hand?? Judging by the garage you had which you were loading books into ..i would say so.

Great book shop. They sell new and second hand books which is great when so many book shops have closed down.

New books OK. They somehow manage to make the second-hand section very dull and uninspiring; it feels more like a place to buy convincing-looking books for real estate photo shoots than books to read. The limited selection has the same feel as the now-departed Newtown branch of this store.

Great book shop for older and used books upstairs, nice atmosphere. New books section downstairs in ok... nothing out of the ordinary. Cafe is good, but in a precinct known for food and coffee, it does not stand out.

Great small bookstore- 2nd hand books upstairs (including some rare and collectable) and new downstairs. Always something interesting I can never leave empty handed! Staff very helpful and knowledgeable.

This is one of my favourite bookstores in Sydney. The staff are always friendly and helpful, and always seem to be enthusiastic to work there and be there. Their selection is quite wide for my tastes and if they dont have what Im looking for they are more than willing to order it in for me. Usually it comes within a few days. Every book Ive bought in the past two years has come from there. Cannot rave enough about this beloved bookstore.

What a great little bookshop! A small chain in Sydney with a family-owned vibe and plenty of good reads. The staff are fantastic, caring and thoughtful. There’s even a home-style reading room upstairs.

Great selection of new and used books. Plus excellent activities and spaces for babies and kids.

Worth the price hike for such a selection. Im particularly grateful for the mothers and educators on staff who know exactly what to recommend for nieces and nephews and honorary nieces and nephews. Their suggestions never fail.

Such an awesome bookshop, a dying breed unfortunately. Great staff, and a really good selection. The upstairs second hand section is so good, and they dont mind you treating it Iike a library- grab a coffee and relax with plenty of books to choose from.

New and used books. Great selection of childrens books given its slightly smaller size. A great activity room upstairs for events. Check it out Saturday mornings where the amazing Rachel reads and leads activities for the kids.

The place looks good and Berkelouw have been shrewd in combining new books downstairs with a cafe and secondhand books upstairs, as well as using the lift and carpark to do once-a-week appraisals to buy used books off you. The selection is very good, the prices a bit high but that is needed for this market; the used books you sell to them will be given a very low price for what you expect unless you have something very unique and saleable, but again, this is them being practical - you dont need them and its a quick way to get rid of them if you have a lot. Go there for a browse and enjoy the selection.

I confess that I am a Berkelouw bookstore fan. Their stores are so well set out and they stock such a vast array of books on all topics and interests. They also stock second handbooks, collector items and giftware. My husband had a business meeting in Leichardt recently and I spent a couple of hours mooching around here and buying more books to add to my to read collection. You add a coffee shop and a bookstore together and I am lost. Such a fabulous idea.

Love this place, it is a real hub in the Leichhardt Community. The staff are great and theyll price match if you find a cheaper price on the internet...Ive asked them to match prices on books and they have, so I always buy from here rather than online, to keep real shops staffed by real people open. Highly recommended.

I quite like this place. Good food, good coffee. Slightly above average prices but Ive been coming here for years so I dont really care. Its a good safe option. See you soon!

Small stock but terrific staff.

The best thing about shopping at Berkelouws is that all the staff seem to be readers themselves. Gift suggestions, title queries, or a brief chat at the eftpos about the book youre buying, the staff are friendly and informative. The shop has a great range of authors, topics, genres and sell interesting books to all kinds of interesting people. Its difficult to leave Berkelouws without a literary treat.

This is a great store. Heaps of great titles, including in their used books section, and the reading space and bar upstairs is awesome. I love all the little knickknacks and gifts they sell too.

Nice place to grab a coffee on Norton St Leichhardt. Has also book store I guess to borrow or buy books new and second hand, on two levels. Good customer service and good coffee. From their website;Directions from the city go west along Broadway and Parramatta Road until you hit Norton Street where you will turn right. Berkelouw bookstore is at number 70 on your left, across the street from Norton Plaza. From the city you can take the following bus routes: 436, 438, 439, 440, or the Metrobus M10. The cafe was quite average - the nicoise salad had little dressing and my poached eggs we not runny. The quirky nick-knacks at the front of the store were interesting and the wide array of books are a great draw.

Good second had book section

Egg yolk was pale, almost white which means old poor quality eggs. Didnt eat it. Coffee was burnt and average at best. Juice was thin and watery. Had to send the juice back to get it right. The table was unclean. The manager was emotionless when informed of the issue, no refund or replacement offered. Its not cheap, its not good. This place has no redeeming features other than location. AVOID.
