St. Patrick’s Cathedral, the seat of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Karachi. The Cathedral has a seating capacity of 2,000. The present church was consecrated in 1878 and opened in 1881.The whole interior is painted in oil and the windows are all of stained glass, produced by Franz Mayer of Munich, Germany and donated by the members of the congregation. The cathedrals grounds are adorned with a marble Monument to Christ the King, which was constructed in 1931 to commemorate the memory of the Jesuit Mission in Sindh. In 2003, the cathedral was declared as a protected monument under the Sindh Cultural Heritage Protection Act.

It is an amazing place. One that I didnt know existed all this timeIt is let down, however, by the guy at the gate(Peter, I think), who wasnt letting us in by saying its closedWe didnt take his word for it and went in just the same. Then he said we wouldnt be able to take photos insideWe met a lovely priest inside by the name of Daniel, who was visiting from another city and has been in Pakistan for over quarter decadeHe welcomed us said there are no restrictions on taking photosIt is well worth a visit if you are in Karachi

A few days ago I visited this beautiful and historical place with my Couchsurfing friends. We were doing a city walk around the old town, Saddar.Soon we ended up in front of the picturesque St. Patrick Cathedral, which also houses missionary schools including St. Joseph College. The church was not open for general visitors due to the Sunday service. The caretaker offered us to give a visit on any other working day. Still it was good enough for a group photograph from the outside.

St patricks Church Is The first church in Sindh (except for possibly one in Thatta) was initially built on the grounds of this cathedral in 1845, and was called St. Patrick’s Church. It was in April 1881 that the present cathedral was opened, since the Catholic community grew in number, and the need for a larger place of worship became apparent.[1] Despite the construction of the new building, the little church continued to function until it was destroyed by a storm in 1885.

The St Patricks Cathedral in an integral part of the history of Karachi. It is one of the first churches to be built in Sindh. The architectural sky style is that of The Gothic Revival period. The church though not ornamental from its exterior is a monument of grandeur itself. The interior consists of paintings and stained glass. It is a popular tourist point.

St. Patricks Cathedral is one of the biggest churches in Karachi. I have grown up around this church as all who live in and around saddar go to this church. It is very beautiful and has a Monument too which no other church in Karachi or other places in Pakistan can boast about. There are many well know schools in and around the church and these educational institute have imparted knowledge to all the people of Karachi barring caste or creed. The Catholic mission is responsible for all these churches, schools, colleges etc.The St. Patricks church and monument stands tall and majestic and is a landmark of saddar. Whenever we wish to indicate some direction the church becomes a landmark. It has been around for nearly 200 years and has been a solace for all who wish to pray to the almighty regarding their problems. Visited by people from all walks of life

I am a Patrician and went to St. Pats high school in 1980s. I visited St. Patricks Cathedral after 25-30 years and was amazed to see that everything has been kept as it was 30 years ago. Cathedral ground that connects to St Josephs College is neat and clean. Right around the corner is St. Patricks High School and College. Parking could be a hassle during school and college days.
