The parking plaza is quite spacious with proper parking slots available for hourly and monthly charged parking, it was inaugrated long ago but unfortunately couldnt become successful project of City District Government Karachi (CDGK)

The decades-old deserted LARP Parking Plaza located in Karachi’s Saddar is finally being opened for people.The admin has decided to open 162 shops at the plaza. These shops will be sold to buyers through a lucky draw.On the other hand, the shops on the sixth and seventh floor will either be auctioned or offices will be constructed there.“Two floors are allotted for shops,” said Zafaruddin, the incharge of the parking plaza. “One the shops are completely constructed, they will be rented or sold out,” he said.The plaza also has a parking space for more than 700 cars.According to an official of the Karachi Development Authority, this will help end the financial crisis of the KDA.The department had been working on several plans relating to the development of the parking plaza for months.In the 12-storey parking plaza, two floors are reserved for shops, two for offices and eight for parking of vehicles.The parking plaza was inaugurated in July 2009 and its management was given to a private party on a contract which was later transferred to the KDA

As far as the Parking plaza is concern i am not sure about the Parking but infront across the road a comprehensive market is established for Fish, Fruite and Fish.

Located in a smart building. This official Car Parking built at busy Saddar area with an object to reduce traffic jam is a complete failure and draining of public resources. People seldom park their vehicles here. It is a classical example of improper planning.

CDGK Is the most biggest parking area in karachi located in saddar but saddar town is fully busy and disturbed with no parkings and heavy traffic no is ready to park there ride in CDGK some says police steal cars from CDGK to make people park there cars on no parking and after that they can charge for no parking and thats really sad :(

No concept of cleaning and repair of building. Parking charges is in between 30 to 100 per vehicle depending on the size. CCTV monitoring System placed in there.

Although the traffic mess created by haphazardly parked vehicles in Saddar and nearby areas has gone from bad to worse and causes greater hardship to road users and pedestrians, the city governments parking plaza is yet to be fully utilised as more than a year has passed since its construction and inauguration.Some people whom I spoke to say that the multi-storey car park facility has so far miserably failed to attract motorists attention.According to the chief of the transport department of the City District Government Karachi (CDGK), Iftikhar Kaimkhani, the major reason for the parking plazas underuse, or rather disuse, is the non-cooperation of traffic police who do not fully implement the parking ban on major Saddar roads — whenever it is imposed.Currently there is no ban on parking on roads in Saddar. However, off and on a ban is imposed on parking on Saddar roads under Section 144 of the criminal procedure code.In the 12-storey parking plaza, two floors are reserved for shops, two for offices and eight for parking of vehicles.The plaza is located a few hundred metres away from the Empress Market on a signal-free corridor and constructed at a cost of about Rs650 million on a 35,654-square-foot plot.It has a capacity for over 700 vehicles and 500 motorcycles and houses 160 shops and 118 offices.The parking plaza was inaugurated in July 2009 and its management was given to a private party on a contract.But with the parking ban not imposed and people continuing to park their vehicles on roads, the plaza remains grossly underused with the occupancy rate of hardly 10 per cent.It is observed that even when a ban on parking is imposed, it is never seriously implemented by the traffic police.The traffic police say that whenever a parking ban is imposed, they face strong public reaction and more police personnel are required if the ban is to be implemented in the truest sense.Since the location of the parking plaza is slightly away from the main markets, the contractor is required by an agreement to provide a shuttle service after every 10 minutes. However, because of the parking plazas low occupancy rate, the contractor has not started the shuttle service.The CDGK has also not been able to sell or lease out the shops and offices in the parking plaza, though it had organised a few auctions. Once an auction was cancelled, and at other times few people turned up to participate in the events.Security concernsSeveral people coming for shopping to the Saddar markets cited security concerns as the main reason for not parking their vehicles and motorcycles in the parking plaza.They said that with purse-snatching and mugging incidents so common — and actually on the increase in the city — it was not safe for them to park their vehicles in the plaza, located on the fringe of Lines Area, and then walk to markets.Criminals operating in the area would know that pedestrians were coming for shopping and would be carrying cash, they said.However, City District Government Karachi officials did not agree with this assertion.They said that with so many people walking around and traffic running on the signal-free corridor, it was safe to walk to markets and muggers could not dare attack pedestrians.More parking plazas neededMeanwhile, Mr Kaimkhani rejected the notion that the parking plaza was an example of waste of public money.He said that it was an asset to the CDGK and soon it would be fully utilised as traffic congestion would increase in the city and the ban on parking was fully implemented.Mr Kaimkhani even felt the need for more parking plazas and suggested that more such plazas should be constructed.If vehicles were allowed to be parked on roads freely, driving and even walking through the Saddar streets would soon become impossible, thus more parking plazas were needed, he argued.He said that if at least 700 vehicles currently parked on Saddar streets came to the parking plaza, the traffic flow on Saddar roads would certainly become free.

Its a sad place. The purpose of this building has died since its built. Its a face of heavy negligence.

Best place for car paeking specialy for all saddar area..

Over busy route joining Empress Market, Lines Area, Christian Missionaries Sites and heart land Saddar. It was planned to cater for parking of vehicle as Saddar was to become vehicle free zone. But so far nothing has happened and place is in same disarray, for over 10 years. It is only hoped that now as lot of wrong doing are being corrected this place may also pick up its due pace and place.
