They look after quality of training in recognised institutions throughout the four provinces. Their responsibility is to assess training level of all the trainee and take exam. After clearing CPSP exam doctors are eligible to start independent practice as consultant. its basically centre of excellence that look after different aspects of training.

It is a national institution, established in 1962 by a special act of the Parliament of Pakistan to oversee the postgraduate medical education and professional development. CPSP offers certifications following postgraduate training in specialties of medicine, surgery and dentistry. CPSP is the only postgraduate medical examining body in Pakistan.
