Govt. Islamia Post graduate College has a great historical worth.This college was firstly started with the name of Gujranwala Guru Nanak Khalsa College more than a century ago. Late Present of Pakistan, Justice Muhammad Rafique Tarar was also an ex student of this college.

My father-in-law, Fauja Singh was a lecturer in History Department in 1946-1947, when it was known by the name, Khalsa College, Gujranwala. He left his post to join as History Lecturer at Khalsa College, Amritsar around the partition time. He could not go back to Gujranwala to get his belonging when India got partitioned. Later on, he moved to the University of Delhi and completed his Ph. D. After completing his Ph. D. at the University of Delhi and became a Reader in the Department of History. After several years of working at the University of Delhi, he moved to the Punjabi University, Patiala, Punjab, where he became Director of Punjab Historical Studies and Professor & Head of the History Department. Dr. Singh held many more positions including Dean of Academic Affairs and subsequently Vice-Chancellor of the University. Dr. Fauja Singh is considered as World Class Historian and wrote 30 history books in his academic life. He produced several Ph. Ds. Many of his Ph.
