Sub-Continent is sated with such great saints who resided in almost every part of this area and their shrines are the source of inspiration and sanctity. Sufi Barkat Ali (from the Qadiri Order initiated from Abdul Qadir Jilani) is one of them who made Faisalabad (Pakistan) his abode after the partition.Sufi Barkat Ali (commonly known as Baba Jee) was born April 27, 1911 at Mian Nigahi Bakhsh’s home who was given the happy news of a son who would be marvelous with his deeds. Belonging to Dhariwal Jutt clan, Mian Nigahi Bakhsh was an employee in the British government. Sufi Barkat Ali got the knowledge of Quran at Barahmi village (Tehsil Ludhiyana, North India) and early education from Halwara and Rai Kot. He joined the British Army as a commissioned officer when he was 19 years old and was selected as “Voy Cadet” in the Royal Military Academy. He served in Rookri Cantt while spending his nights meditating at the holy shrine of Hazrat Sabir of Kaliyar Sharif six miles away from Rookri Cantt. He was consistently reported by his seniors as regular, honest, fair, hard working young officer who used to spend his leisure time in Kaliyar Sharif instead of wasting it on other activities. He married a pious woman Barkat Bibi at the age of 16 years. He had five daughters and one son who died in 1981 at the age of 45.He took Bay’at at the hands of Pir Hakeem Syed Ameerul Hasan Saharan Puri. In 1947, he migrated to Pakistan. On Smandri Road Faisalabad, he founded a non-profit organization on of Dar-ul-Ehsan (the house of goodness) which serves as the place of Zikr and service for humanity.He started Free Eye Camp twice every year for the blind and those who have eye diseases the results of which are 99.09% accurate. The patients are operated if needed and the medical staff and up to date machinery is brought from the certified hospitals from all over the country and abroad. With 1200 beds, the hospital covers an area of one hundred and twenty five thousand square feet. Patients are treated as guests with no fee at all even the doctors treating or operating the patients receive no fee from anyone. His Dar-ul-Hikmat (the place of Islamic medication) offers medical facilities to the patients round the clock with no charges of the medicine or even fee. Everything is “Fi Sabeelillah” (in the way of Allah). Other philanthropic services are continued even after his death. Blankets in the dead winter nights are distributed among the poor and needy people. A “langar” (free meals) is provided to the Zaireen (the visitors).Majalis of Zikr (the joint invocation of Allah) is the hallmark of Dar-ul-Ehsan where the teams of Zakireen (invocators) come from all over Pakistan and abroad 24/7 according to their turn and assigned time. All the time they are engaged in Zikr in the building of Dar-ul-Ehsan. He wrote and compiled 400 books on different topics including “Ishq” (the divine love), metaphysics, psychology, ethics, philosophy and hierology.
