If you cant find what you want here, WELL it hasnt been written yet. This is TRULY a joy to visit this store. They are all so helpful and really know their stock. Im inspired every time i visit this DELIGHTFUL store. They have a great return policy. Its one of my XMAS go to shops. LOVE IT.

This store reignited my love for reading a couple of years ago and I havent looked back. I am so in love with the company and the staff who work there. Fabulous selection of books, happy to order something not in stock, great in conversation events (highly recommended). Just an amazing vibe. I am so happy with Avenue that I hesitate to go to any other bookstore.

Stumbled across this bookshop when searching online for a particular book. A further book was located at another Avenue store, and it was sent across on within hours (on a Sunday)! The parcel was then sent express Post to WA, so should arrive for Christmas. Pleasant and efficient Sales Attendants.... thank you!

Old school large bookshop with staff who answer questions well, know what theyre doing. Its really the last bastion of book shops. They do it well so theyll remain as long as possible. I fear itll be like the buggy whip analogy, however I do praise their efforts in their atmosphere, selection and service. They gift wrap for free and have a membership club. Go upstairs to the back to experience what I think is the most relaxing part of the shop. They have meet the author sessions. Its great.

I have been a customer of The Avenue since about 1998 or so. It is a fabulous bookstore as I am sure all customers will agree. The staff are both knowledgeable and helpful (and sometimes VERY busy) and the range covers everything I can think of an more. I hang out for the seasonal catalogue (I live in the country) so that I can get back in for a new fix (or buy online if desperate, but that takes away the delight of being in the store and browsing). Downside - I spend so much money on great books.

Brilliant bookstore! If you love literature, poetry, history, biography, languages, art, design, philosophy ... then this is by far the best bookstore in Melbourne and possibly the country. The staff are readers or authors themselves, and always helpful. This bookstore is one of lifes treasures!

I like to order online with them then go in and pick it up. They always fill the order quickly. Lovely shop to browse, too.

I ordered a book online from this store on the 21st of November only to be told it wasn’t in stock (so what was it doing on the website?) I was condescendingly offered the option of the bookstore keeping my money until such time as the book came back in stock (it’s out of print!) or a refund. I chose a refund on the 22nd. After several emails and a telephone call a refund has finally been processed. In the age of online book selling and the soon to be Amazon onslaught the only thing independent book stores have going for them is personalised service. This store fails on that front spectacularly. Oh and a check on their website yesterday revealed the book was still listed on the website!I’ll shop online with the likes of Book Depositary and Amazon from now on.

Fantastic live bookshop. Not online is its greatest asset. Open all hours you need a book.
